My 2004 2X4 3500 seems like it is a lot loader than when it was new. It has 110k miles and I am hearing a lot more wind and outside noise than I think is normal. I inspected all the door and window seals and they all are undamaged. Do these get "tired "? My driver door has been blown open hard a few times but nothing is bent or out of alignment. I thought of moving the strike plate in to tighten the closed position but if I pull on the inside of the door there is no decrease in outside noise plus this would throw the gaps between the front & rear fores of. New seals?

i added an extra strip of stick on insulation to the side of the rubber strip on the top of the door, drivers side.

that helped some, but i still have a bit of wind noise, however, it's much better.

some said that dodge had a new and improved weather strip for our model trucks. if my noise was worst, i would look into replacing the weather stripping on the drivers side door.

might be worth a look see, if dealer does have a improved door seal.

 

I would look for a warm day in the next few days, clean my rubber seals really good, then apply a thin coat of petrolem jelly to the rubber, then shut the doors and let it sit in the sun for a day.

If you don't like that, you can put a little M-A-N on it, roll the window down, grab the top rear outside of the door with one hand, and put your other hand on it, about six inches above the interior trim, push in, push out... it'll bend the door a little and make it shut tighter.

You could also get some hush mat or the like and insulate it a bit.

Look under the dash where the rubber grommets are and make sure they are still good.

There was a TSB a while back for this, they installed new and improved weather stripping... You're gonna pay for it now, it was a long time ago.

I did make sure all the mating surfaces were clean along with wiping all seals down. What is the purpose of the petroleum jelly? Does it condition the rubber?

 

It will soften it and make it form to the door jam. It only takes one day, so you can clean it off after the end of that day. Don't use any cleaners, just a rag. Don't scrub it off like crazy, if there is a little left, it's ok.

I had a Camaro with T-tops back in the day, it leaked like it was cool. I used that trick, never had a problem after that.

 

Petroleum jelly works really good and so does a good chassis rubber lubricant. The rubber gasket material gets flattened, the lubricants make it expand back to its original size.

Wurth makes a rubber conditioning spray that many of the high line car dealerships use. It seems to work well on the seals of the hard top convertibles.

My plan was to buy new door and window seals now and store them so I could freshen up my truck later.

 

I bought several tubes of Dupont "Electrical Insulation Compound" many years ago at some auction for $1.00 ea and put it on the 2 drivers side doors this afternoon. I think it is the same stuff mentioned earlier in this thread. I didn't have much of a chance to see if it helped the wind noise at highway speed but hopefully I will tomorrow. It was still fairly warm out when I applied it. It certainly made the neoprene look brand new. For giggles I did the left passenger side door handle because I got some on the handle as I was putting it on the weatherstrip. It made the somewhat chalky looking UV effected handle look new so I am going to give it a day or two to see if makes the handle too slick. After I wiped it off the handle was not slick but I don't want to do all the handles without giving this experiment time.
