Horn beeps with door open

On my new '06, if you have the door open and you put the truck in gear the horn starts wailing and the headlights flashing. Obviously a safety feature but it can be real annoying. I do a lot of that type of driving when hitching/unhitching, getting RV into a tight spot, etc. Anyone know if this function can be disabled?

Idiots. What kind of stupid device is this? There is an engineer somewhere proud of him/herself for this one. Nerds. Maybe natural selection will weed out those that can't operate a truck without hurting themselves of someone else. PARKING BRAKE. It is that little pedel next to the kick panel! USE IT!

Geez. The more idiot proof you make something, the smarter the idiots get! Maybe we can make trucks so you must put it in gear, type in a password, get FCC clearance, and a note from you mother before we can move a truck. Then no one would get accidentally run over! What a great idea! These are just my thoughts on the subject...I'm grumpy today. Got up too early to pouring rain.

Sounds like the "fix" that DC is doing for the shift lever problem. When you think it is in park and open the door and suddenly find the truck "driving" down the road in reverse. If that is the fix guess I will pass on that one.

If it were mine, I think I'd jumper past the driver's door switch...

True, but I'd be willing to trade having to turn the switch when I wanted the cab light on for being able to open the door...

Actually you can probably thank DC's lawyers for that one.

I was backing up to my trailer early this morning, jumped out to see how close I was then in, left the door open started backing up and horn, lights, flashers all going off, I though I'd hit the alarm or something, wife, kids, neightbors all came out, that was fun. what a pos feature, I want my door open when backing up to hitch,

Wouldn't a piece of Duct tape over the door switch stop that? You could still turn the inside overhead lights on.

No one here knows if there is an over-ride for this feature?? Surely there must be a way....I'd rather not jumper past the door switch if at all possible, but I will if necessary. Can't have all that havoc going on every time I'm hitching and unhitching. Someone will call the cops

unless things changed for 06, the door switch is intergrated with the door latch. you can if listening to the radio with all doors open, disable the chime by tripping the latch to thinking the door is shut.

I highly doubt if there is a mechanical way...probably have to have it disabled in the pcm/ecm whatever its called

Stupid Alarm

I wonder if this feature would really help prevent anybody from hurting themselves. Sure is a POS for the business customers who hook and unhook trailers all day long. Help Me

What about cutting the wires that sense when you have buckled the belt. Then jump them together so the ecm or whatever thinks you have your seatbelt buckled?? I will look into this when/IF my new truck ever gets here, still collecting dust sitting in storage in St.Louis.
