Guage Codes

I ran a guage check the other day and after it did it's thing, I got this message "C-Code 64 31". Anybody have any idea what this is supposed to mean? I haven't had any problems with the guages (except the identified occassional "check guages" light flash). Thanks for your help.

These are the Instrument Cluster diagnostic codes and definition. I don't have the diagnostic manuals availble until I get the other computer fixed. But this is the list from 04 manual I think.

The first two characters that display are the code definition. The second two numbers are the number of key cycles since the code or with the code, can't remember right now.

The text “C Code” is displayed in the odometer VFD for about three seconds. If there is no stored fault information, the display will show two pairs of zeroes in the format “00” “00”, which indicate that the display of fault information is done. If there is stored fault information, two sets of two-digit alpha and alpha-numeric fault codes will appear in the odometer display for a three second interval. The first pair of digits represents a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), or fault code for the instrument cluster. The second pair of digits is a counter for the number of ignition key cycles that have occurred since the displayed DTC was set. The instrument cluster will continue to display additional sets of two pairs of digits at three second intervals until all of the stored codes have been displayed, which is again signaled by a code of “00” “00”. Refer to the Instrument Cluster Failure Message table for a description of each fault code that the instrument cluster displays. If an instrument cluster fault is displayed, use a DRBIII® scan tool to diagnose the problem. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

The list of code definitions was the same as above.

From the diagnostic manual. This is just the first part of diagnostics info. Everything else is related to using a DRBIII for testing process.

When Monitored and Set Condition:

DRIVER DOOR LOCK SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORT TO VOLTAGE

When Monitored: At all times when battery power is supplied to the Instrument Cluster.
Set Condition: When the Instrument Cluster senses voltage to the driver door lock switch
above 4.85 volts.

POSSIBLE CAUSES DTC PRESENT
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - DRIVER DOOR LOCK SWITCH VOLTAGE LOW
DOOR LOCK SWITCH GROUND OPEN
DRIVER DOOR LOCK SWITCH MUX WIRE SHORT TO VOLTAGE
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - VOLTAGE TO HIGH
DRIVER DOOR LOCK SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT OPEN
DOOR LOCK SWITCH - SHORT TO VOLTAGE
DOOR LOCK SWITCH OPEN

Thanks everyone. I don't like the fact that the "31" code isn't even listed. Maybe I invented something new to go wrong with my truck! I assume I can clear these codes if I disconnect the batteries and see if they come back? Or does it need to be hooked up to a scan tool to be cleared? I may have gotten the "64" code when I took the driver's door panel off to replace the speakers. Thanks again.

Thanks vzdude! That would make sense then. I probably tripped the code when I was screwing around and the 31 cycles would jive with that. Do you know if these codes will reset if I disconnect the batteries?

I wouldn't even mess with that, they will reset eventually after enough key cycles.
