Once the frame is repaired I intend to have new, non-progressive springs stacked(six to eight leaves each) without the overload pair. If I can do it without breaking the bank. And a set of spacers from the bottom of the pack to the axle spring perches so I can change the rear pads without dropping the axle 3/4" every time I have to remove the calipers.

Why would someone do *this* to the frame?

I can honestly say I'm at a loss for words ......

How about 10,800 and schools in SoCal are loaded with speed bumps....apparently Dodge never meant to produce a vehicle that could carry its maximum GVWR for a sustained period. Makes ya wonder what ya buy a truck for, for Chrissakes!!!!

Agreed!

This wouldn't happen on a channel frame; the brackets would have been riveted instad of welded as on a box section frame. One more reason the chassis-cabs currently use channel-section frames.

10,800 is nothing, you had a bad frame. The weld was probably too hot, makes me wonder what else will fail on that frame.

My truck weighs over 9000 EMPTY. At 10,800 that should not have happened. My truck has gone across the scales at 15K+ and has 230,000 on the clock with no issues like that.

Uh, okay ..... nice comment. Maybe I should say thank you?

Back on topic .....

Even is AH64ID is right and it was a bad weld on a possible bad frame, the amount of weight and abuse required to make *that* happen to the frame is substantial.

That is a crazy bummer. We have an 01 utility that is loaded to 11-12K lbs. It tows a little bit too with the heaviest trailer around 8-9K lbs. Luckily never had an issue like this. But it has rear air bags.

On my 05, I have rear bags that bolt from the bottom of the frame to the top of the axel. Not sure if they bolt up the same on the 2x4 though. Maybe that would work for you? Put 50 lbs in them and I bet it will take a bunch of weight off the overloads.

ETA- I hate speed bumps.
