Goodyear Duratracs

My current situation dictated I needed to choose between these and BFG ATs. I chose the Goodyears. I just had them put on today. These will not be for everyone, but I think they will work well for me. They are load range D, but I do not tow with this truck! It is a little embarrassing, but it is a spoiled family transporter and toy for me. I bought 285/70/17 10 ply.

My initial impression:
I like the aggressive look.
They balanced well, with no excessive weights.
They ride very smooth.
They are quiet for the aggressive tread design. There is a slight hum at highway speed.
If you make an abrupt turn, you will feel a little tire flex. Not enough to bother me.

Hopefully, I can keep updating this and provide some good data along the way.
I have done some research and it looks like some guys running these on our trucks are running more psi in the front to compensate for the engine weight. I'm going to look into that more. I'll see if I can post some pics.

Good choice, have duratracs on a couple of the trucks here, and they work great. Doesn't matter what weather conditions, on or off road. They seem to be a true LT tire, not a glorified p-metric. Not in the same league as the old Bridgestone vsx, but pretty good.

That's a nice tire size, but I am a little confused--

Load range D is 8 ply equivalent,
Load Range E is 10 ply...which did you get??

I'll be watching this thread. I'm due for tires soon. Looking at these or the toyo open country at2, in 35/12.5/r17 though. Load range E. Only thing I tow though is my bumper pull camper.
I can't open the pics you posted, may be my net connection, I'm offshore in malaysia

Seafish, good catch, they are 8 ply. I was wanting 10 ply but they couldn't get them.

I've had 1 set of Duratracs. Not on a diesel but on a heavily loaded down 1/2 ton. About the same weight and I beat them up and down the freeway in the mountains which is rough on treadwear. They lasted as long as any AT tire, great traction until they were in the last third of treadwear, like any other tire. Less tire noise than most MTs. They did cup/feather pretty bad, but no worse than any other tires I've had under the same conditions.
They are now in my top 3 truck/mud tires along with Toyo MT and Pro Comp MT.

These are on my short list, but I'm not sure if they make them in 315/70/17 or a 35x12.50x17 load range E or not.

I've found the GY Duratrac to be the best tire I've ever run on my truck, especially in winter conditions. They really handle snow and ice better than any tire I've tried.

Running Duratracs on my '14 Ram diesel at work in the arctic now. 80psi rears in an empty truck due to the tpms. I've been driving on solid ice and snow for the last month and haven't put it in 4wd. About as good a winter tire as you can get IMO without going to a dedicated snow tire.

That's consistent with my experience too. I've found I can run my Duratrac's on icy roads (in 2WD), better than my Toyo's, Michelin's, or BFGs will run with 4WD. They are a fantastic winter tire.

I've had 3 sets now, and about to snag up set 4. Love these tires!
They do cup if you don't rotate frequently. In Colorado winters, 4x4 isn't frequently needed.
The tires will tell you when they need rotated. They start to hum a bit more when the fronts are tired and want to go on the back.
I'm running 315/70/17's and they are load d. They don't make them in e.
You'll run into some shops that won't install due to the lower load rating then out trucks require.
I have towed fairly heavy with these (10k) and didn't see an issue.
I do notice, however, that the fronts ok low on pressure with the weight of the engine, which could also attribute to cupping, so I do run about 15 lbs more in the front.
