Fuel Tank Leak at fill up

Hello all,

I am new to the CTD world. I have noticed that when I fill all the way up at the pump, I get a leak until I have burned off a couple of gallons. I have read the thread about the vents being open and plan on putting the hoses with a filter on them as soon as possible. Could this be the source of the leak at fill up, or is something else more likely?

That is possible. You should be able to see where it comes from pretty easy though. Just take a flash light to look real close. Does it leak enough to hit the ground?

Also go to the top (almost) left of the screen to "User CP" and fill out your signature. This will let everybody see exactly what you drive and give better help for this and future questions.

And BTW... WELCOME to DTR!!

Yes it hits the ground, looks like it comes from the back portion of the tank when standing next to the truck

Chances are it is the rear vent then. Check it out and keep us posted to your findings.

I put hoses and filters on all the barb fittings that I could see with the tank in and put them up out of the way of water and debris from the tires/weather. The tank still leaks. I filled it up all the way while watching the big white ring at the top of the tank. When it got full, fuel shot out of what looked like holes around the top perimeter of the white ring. Is there a seal that was not properly installed? I have read a couple of other threads and that seems like it might be a possibility. Any ideas on what to do next? Thanks

I read somewhere that there is a unused/capped line port within the white ring that doesn't have diesel fuel rated cap on it. The cap rotted and caused the leak. The solution is to use diesel rated hose and put a bolt in it. Hope this makes sense to you.

Thanks, I will try to see if that is the problem, I did put some fuel hose and filter on a white barb that was within the ring, but that did not help. It sure looked like the fuel was coming from the perimeter of the ring tho.
