fuel question

Hey guys, anybody remember a thread about removing a float device from the fuel tank to decrease fill up time at the pump. I couldn't find it under the search. any help would be appreciated.

There is a kit for sale, maybe on this site. Do a search for the fuel tank vent kit. It could be on TDR, double check.

A member of Turbo Diesel Register came up with a "kit" that adds another vent from the tank. You need to drive the tank nearly dry and drop it from thetruck. The discussion is in one of the 3rd generation forums on TDR.

I doubt that it is any kind of float device. I dropped my factory tank when I was plumbing in my auxillary tank.

The fuel tank is flat on the bottom, but it "stair steps" on the top. As I recall there are three levels and the fill and vent hoses enter the tank in the middle level. About one fourth of the length of the tank is three or so inches above where the fill and vent hoses enter the tank. On the top of the high point is a small vent with a one way valve on it.

The easy way to speed up your fill would be to add a decent size vent to the top and plumb it back to the factory vent hose at the highest point possible.

Can you send me the guy's (with the vent kit) name and how to contact him? I am not a member on TDR.

Thanks, BM

Its under 3rd Gen Ram Forum (no engine/transmission), the thread name is How I solved slow fillup, and is about 5 pages back. I am not a member either, and you do not have to be a member to read that particular forum. I'm not too good at creating a link.

Just do it !

You'll be glad you did ! No more freezing off the family jewels in the winter time topping off ! My top off time went from 9 to 11 minutes getting in the last 4.5-5.0 gallons to about 30 seconds to top off after first click. Dave even came to Lexington and performed my install.......he's a great guy ! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

maynard3,

I've been thinking about buying his kit. Are there any adverse affects from putting the vent kit in? What kind of elbow is used to go into the tank? How is it held in place in the tank?

I'm just concerned about a dealer screwing my warranty just because I don't like hanging around a fuel pump for 20 minutes to fill my tank that a highly paid engineer doesn't know how to design correctly.

Maybe talk to Dave and have him sell his kit here on DTR as well.

Thanks
