Yep that's where it is. Drain fuel, remove top and filter, clean water sensor and crud (if any), put diesel on o-ring, re-install new filter, turn key to on, wait a bit, turn off then on again, wait a bit, then start, check for leaks. May take awhile to start it, but don't worry it will.

yeah that's it. Pull the lever to drain first, then with a 1 1/8 inch socket remove the cap. After the new one is in I would cycle the key on 2-3 times before trying to start to refill the fuel system.

If you bump the starter instead of just turning the key, the fuel pump will run for about 30 seconds filling the cannister. Starts right up after that. That's how I do it.

Always keep an extra under the seat also. I left the truck with my wife while I was travelling on business and she actually had it towed to a shop because she said it was running bad. 300 dollar fuel filter. ouch.

need to teach her how to change it too... I got my 4 year old nephew wanting me to change mine every time he comes over, he could probably do it for you even.

Also, just a side note, in the technical section, there is a very good writeup on how to change the fuel filter.

It seams I can only get about 4000 to 5000 miles out of a filter before it starts to run bad. Anyone else getting short life out of their filters?? I have used Wix and Lubrifiner Filters.

I'm changing mine for the first time based on the owner's manual intervals - 30k. I haven't noticed any reduced performance our rough idling etc. but I do buy my fuel from the same location (local). Still getting around 16 mpg in town driving (stock tires/auto/4.10s).

Take this with a grain of salt, but...

I have drained my 6.7L's filter but not changed it out yet. The 6.7L is different - no lever anymore. I'll post pictures when I do it but that won't be for a while yet. If one of you 6.7L guys does the job with the wife holding a camera, that'd be a sticky because there are several differences. Look at the difference between the 5.9L here and the 6.7L here...

We need new pics and a new procedure written up. We also need a mod to the #$%^& drain valve that leaks fuel from around the threads instead of dropping the fuel down the clear tube. This is a very messy, #$%^& job on the 6.7L

Speaking of an easy job...I had my truck at the dealership for service and they asked me if I wanted them to change the Fuel filter, I said yes assuming they were just going to charge me for the filter as it's such a simple change out,...when everything was done I went to pay and saw they charged me $120 for the fuel filter change I thought there was some kind of mistake until they showed me their service price list...So uh yeah, don't let your dealership do it for you
