Front end mystery rattle

I have a 2005 3500 DRW 4x2 auto. I have noticed that there is a very loud rattle in the front end. Took it to the dealer and they heard the rattle but said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Could it be the sway bar end links? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check your shocks, a loose shock will rattle.

If the shock feels tight, tighten it some more, really crank on it!

It's very likely the sway bar links. Mine has been doing it for a long time. To find out go under the truck and hit the link with your hand. You may have to hit it kind of hard but you'll get the sound your hearing. The little ball joint ends are loose. I wish they just used the old fashioned rubber donuts.

I think mine is starting to do this. It only happens if I've been driving at freeway speed for a while though; maybe 30 minutes or more. This makes me think that whatever it is has to get warm enough to start rattling. It's starting to drive me nuts . Only 12k on the meter and I've already got rattles . I've been having a heck of a time trying to find where it's coming from.

Hey guys! This may sound weird but I had a rattling noise up front on the passenger side. When I took to the dealer, the tech could not find anything, then he thought it could be the coolant overfill tank. It's not loose. When hitting bumps the fluid would slosh around making a rattling noise. The tech showed me this by taking the fluid out of the coolant overfill tank and test driving. Rattling noise went away. He then had me drive the same exact truck as mine it had this rattling noise, he then took the fluid out of that truck and it went a way. I told him I didn't like that and what could be done to fix it. He said when enough people come forward with this the manufacture will will put out a TB to mod the tank, like baffles or something. It's worth a try to see if that is the colprit making all that noise up front.

I may have your solution...I think someone already said it though. My dad has a 2005 4X2 and his was rattling in the left front. We crawled under there looking for stuff and eventually figured out it was the top nut of the shock absorber. It was REALLY loose. We tightened her down real good and now it sounds like a brand new truck again!!! Sounds like it could be a common problem with 4X2 trucks. Mine hasn't done that at all.

Another place to look are the control arms on front diff. The rubbers can wear and cause a rattle noise that is initially very hard to track down.

This isn't it. When mine's doing it, I can hear both these things occurring. That sloshing noise has been with the truck since day one. This one's new. Appreciate the help though.

My front brake pad anti-rattle clips somehow got jacked-up and made a rattle when hitting bumps. Give them a check. The pads really can make a lot of noise!

Hey guys just thought that I would let you know that I found out it was the front sway bar end links that were bad. What a horrible design by DC. They cost me $82.00 a piece. Couldn't get them anywhere else.

Trickflow,

I haven't fixed mine yet. Do the new parts look different from the stock ones? I'm hoping Dodge improved the design.

No unfortunately they haven't changed them a bit. I just wish that they would have been the old styled so that they didn't cost so much.
