First Tank Milage..... Is this Normal????
Just finished my first full tank of fuel. I had 389.2 Miles on the tank and held 27.70 gallons which equals 14.05 mpg. This is a mixture of 60% town 40% highway. Let me know what you guys think. My truck is an 05 with a build date of 08/04 would the milage flash pertain to me at all?

Better than mine when I got it.
I averaged about 12mpg with the 4.10 rear. Unfortunately, mine was built after the dates indicated for the reflash
If your truck is eligible for the flash I would do it. I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about the reflash.

I have an '05 quad cab 4 by 4 with auto and just over 5000 miles. I am averaging about 14 mpg- mostly slow country dirt roads and short around towners. On the highway I am seeing close to 20 mpg although I see very little highway time. Hoping it gets better with miles and towing.
It is significantly better than my previous truck - '98 Ram 4 by with V10 - 6mpg towing , 10 highway. Enjoy your new ride - I do.
Do a search for TSB 18-037-04 regarding the mileage flash.

I got around 15 on my 1st tankfull, and it creeped up to 16 or so when the temperature outside was over 45 or 50. That was Dec 1st, and the winter fuel should have already been in. I started using stanadyne performance formula, and I jumped to 17.5 for a few tankfulls, until we had this cold blast. With the nightime temps below zero and daytimes below 20 I dropped to 15 , and when it warms up a little I'm set at 16.
When the non blended fuel returns, warmer weather ,breakin and stanadyne, I hope to get 20 on the highway and no less than 17 around town.
I have 5600 on the truck now, and see the air filter indicator is close to the red mark, and will change it out and hope to gain a little there too.

I got 14.5 on my first tank. After that I was in the 16's for a couple of tanks. Now if I drive just right and make the right faces I can get 17+ going back and forth to work. On the highway( if I keep it under 68) I can get 19+. This is an 04.5 quad cab 4x4

My first tank was 13.3 mpg. After 20k miles and TSB flash done I'm getting
aound 14.5 mpg.
Maybe I need to take a long trip hualing the tractor to really break it in?

To get a true indication of mileage on any vehicle, it is best to average your mileage over several tankfuls, whether or not you fill to the neck.
It makes no difference at all whether you stop filling at the first automatic shut-off or fill to the neck.
The only thing filling to the neck does is gives you extra range on that tank full of fuel.
There are a couple of ways to do this.
#1 - Figure your mileage at each fill, total up about 4 or 5, then divide by that number. For example, you fill it up five times, your mileage for those five tanks are 14.5, 15.1, 14.8, 14.1 and 15.0. That equals 73.5. Now divide by five, and your fuel mileage for those five tank fills is 14.7.
#2 - Write down mileage at next fill up, drive and drive and drive and fill up 5(or any number) times. Say after the fifth fill up, figure out how many miles you have driven and divide that by the total number of gallons you pumped in those miles.
Either way will yield the same results. In figuring your fuel mileage over the long run, it makes absolutely no difference whether you fill to the neck or not.

"First Tank Mileage..... Is this Normal????
The guy is questioning a "single" tank MPG. IMHO filling to the brim at the start and the end is the only way to ensure an accurate MPG calculation on a single tank.
