If you buy your truck off the spec sheets the Dodge is finishes 3rd. Which isn't bad except there's only 3 in the field. Chev has more power, Ford has the highest gvw.

Troll-ish, but I'll bite.

When buying a truck, there are other important things to consider besides power and gvw. It all depends on what is most important to you. I rank them like this:
  1. Cost of ownership: Initial purchase price, warranty duration, reputation for reliability, fuel and maintenance costs, etc. I think overall Dodge wins here, although GM currently has the better warranty. Dodge gets better mpgs than Ford, tires are easier to find (thus less expensive) than Ford, oil changes are cheaper than Ford, and I don't have to remove the cab to work on the engine . Besides, you really want to gamble on the two entirely new engines coming out from GM and Ford? You thought the 6.7 had teething problems? Ha!
  2. Power: Usable power is more important than peak values. I don't want to drive around at redline all the time, where it seems the Duramax and PSD make their peak torque & HP. That low-end Cummins torque is right where I need it. Besides, IIRC the Duramax de-tunes in first and sixth gear. That's cheatin'!
  3. Dealer reputation. Depends on location.
  4. Storage. The Ram wins hands-down.
  5. Looks and creature comforts. Not all that important to me, although my kids are pushing me to get a Mega-Cab for the extra leg room. I think the Rams (new and old) have always been the best looking trucks IMHO.
  6. Capacity: Rated GVWs are driven more by marketing and legal departments than the engineering department. I think for 98% of the users the Dodge ratings are more than adequate. The other 2% can buy an Ram 4500 or F450 I guess (if they can afford to feed the F450).

Your list will be different.

My experience with Fords and the higher GVW is to read the fine print. Only applies to certain configurations.

Stopped at Chevy store today. No 6.2 or 6 speed trucks but I did get"we have TWO coming" then stopped at a Ford store.Had no 5.4 6 speeds but did have ONE 4.6 3 valve 6 speed.I really want more motor and the Ford was a CREW CAB and had that little bitty bed.Plus it was black(yuk)Not what I want. The Dodge store across the road had about 20 Quad cabs and about 20 crew cabs.Lots more of a selection to look at and choose from.
