...good, in two ways.

1) My mileage continues to increase. I saw 18.16 (hand-calc'd) on a full tank of mixed city/highway after the reflash to TSB 18-05-06. Last full tank was 17.11, so I'm up another 1 MPG. It just keeps getting better and better.

2) My overhead is more accurate, though now it reads high rather than low. It used to read 1.5-2.0 MPG low, and now reads 0.8-1.0 high.

I'm definitely pleased with the results of the reflash. My truck has a build date of July 2005, so it was one of the very early 2006's and probably had very old firmware. I was already getting great mileage and this has made it even better.

 

What TSB are you referring to? I can only find them for auto tranny and defrost. My '06 is an early one too.....the mileage isn't bad so I haven't been worried about it but any improvement would be great.

 

TSB 18-05-06. I included a link to the TSB sticker in my message below, click on it to view. I went in because the Check Engine light came on one morning for no apparent reason, and they said this TSB would fix that. My theory is that TSB's are cumulative, meaning that I got all the prior fixes too. Something must have involved fuel delivery because my mileage increased immediately thereafter and my overhead became more accurate.

No idea. Call the dealer and ask. It might be 2006 specific.

 

My '06 is also pretty early-it was built in August '05. It has not had any reflashes. It, too, is getting ridiculous mileage if the overhead is even remotely close. Mine is a 2500 2wd 6 speed, so it's pretty much set up for good mileage. My overhead generally hovers around 19.5 mpg in town. The truck has 6300 miles on it, and is absolutely stock, down to the paper air filter. I shift at 1250-1500 rpm in town when not in a hurry, and I look ahead in traffic to anticipate when I can let off and coast. I get worse mileage on the highway than I do in town, I think mainly because of the steep gearing of the g56.

 

I also coast when possible - that's just common sense. I've driven that way since I got my driver's license.

I also coast down hills. Hey, I spent good fuel to climb them on the other side... why pay twice?

Little things like this go a long way to improving your overall MPG.

 

It is my understanding that the tsb's are not cumulative. If you had one to help the shifting on the tranny. It probably wouldn't be overiden by one that is for hard starting. There are probably diff. area's in the pcm that are for diff. things. Who knows, maybe the tech I talked to dosn't know what he is talking about.

 

I have an early 06 also, 3/4 ton 4X4 with auto, completely stock. Was getting about 16.5 and had updated TSB when I changed my oil at dealer. Runs better, more power and increased to 17.5 MPG right away. I think it will get better because I only have 4000 on truck. I always ask the dealer if there are any computer upgrades whenever I go in for anything.

 

Could be either way. I come from a firmware background (been writing firmware for embedded systems since 1981) and generally, when you reprogram a firmware image, you reprogram the whole thing - not just a portion of it.

This is true if you're doing the actual code. If all these TSB's are doing is revising data tables which the code references (lookup tables for various control parameters), then it is much more likely that one portion could be changed while the others are left unaffected.

But anything is possible, if they designed the program-in-place system properly.
