Smile Finally, I can see my cup holder..

.. at night that is. I got tired of trying to keep my eyes on the road and feeling around to get a drink into the cup holder because it is too dark for me to see it. I bought a $2 green LED from Radio Shack and glued it in the dash opening above the cup holder area, near the latch. Wired it into the cig lighter so it is only on when the key is. Puts out a small amount of light on the back of the holders, just enough to see where they are at in the dark .

Smart idea! Especially using the cig lighter line.

Mopar Light for Cup Holder

The part number is 55361226-AA LAMP-ASH. I think it's around $35.00, but not too sure.

You have to remove the one piece faceplate that covers your stereo, heater controls and heated seat switches. You need to remove one screw between the top of the cup holder and the bottom of the face plate, then carefully pull the entire piece away from the dash. Once removed, there should be a factory wire with a connector for the lighting unit. It then snaps in just above the ash tray and cup holder. Hope this helps.

Thats what I did. It lights up the ash tray as well as the cup holders.

I'm going to run a wire to the rear cup holders - my kids like to be able to find them at night and I appreciate the reduced spillage factor. Now, on the front ones, how do you take off the cup holder assembly to run the wire underneath and secure the LED? I found some of the screws, but there must be some strong clips holding it to the body or am I missing something? Any pics ?

Anyone have the part number to the cupholder light for a megacab? I asked the parts guy at the dealership and he didn't seem to have much of a clue. It is mighty dark down there, worse than my 03.

No need to remove the cup holder to do what I did. Remove the one dash screw right above the trash bag hook then start pulling the dash right there. The whole center section of dash will come off exposing the area above the cup holder and the wires needed to install. There is a square hole in the remaining dash section above the cup holder, I guess for the factory light. I glued the LED to the dash support right above the square hole.

Thats funny I was just going to post u guys a question what the little empty plug was behind the dash panel. I found it when I was looking to see what kind of cable the cd changer plugs in the back of the radio with. I have a 98 ram and I was hopeing the changer would be the same. Does anyone know of a adapter and if the changer would even work with the new radio?

My solution for that is an old cellphone charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It has a red LED that indicates it's receiving power. Snip off the cable to the cellphone I no longer own, and presto - I have a red light that won't ruin my night vision. It's directional, too - just twist it in the lighter socket to aim it wherever it's needed.

Cost: $0.00
Time to install: 10 seconds

And just think for 25K miles now I just reach down and feel the hole with my pinky as I drop my coffee mug into the holder. Works great and my eyes never leave the road.
