Factory nav radio SUCKS

So I have an '06 Mega Cab Laramie and the factory nav/u-connect stereo system and it sucks.
The navigation keeps saying "your entering an area where turn by turn directions are unavailable" or something like that. There's no port to plug in my phone or I-pod either.
I'd like to go to the Kenwood (or?) replacement unit with blue tooth and Garmin gps but with the u-connect, steering wheel controls, etc. the parts alone were quoted to me at $1500.
Does that sound like a correct dollar figure?
What are you guys putting in for head units to replace the factory one and keep all the options? How pricey was it?
I'm happy with the sound quality, etc. it's mainly that I'd like a better gps system like Garmin.

Thank in advance,

No factory nav but I upgraded to a Pioneer Avic unit z150bh back in late spring.8 Very happy with the unit overall. The sound quality is light years better. The head unit does have bluetooth and it also connects to my phone via cable if I want to watch movies or things like that. I haven't tried those yet but the capabilites I saw of it in my installers H3 were great.

I can't answer the question to which unit will work with Garmin. To this point I have been pleased with the nav on this. No wierdness. Not to say there truly isn't any. Just that I haven't run across them yet.

The price quoted for parts is in the ballpark. My unit was 1000 plus another 150-200 for cables/ adapters. Then 150 install. If you've got steering wheel controls it adds a little extra for connection/harness.

Thanks Shorts
I don't mind spending the $$ and I can do the install but it'll have to wait a bit as I just did 3 injectors.

Ouch. Yeah you have to let the wallet cool off before handling it again. I hear that.
