Enable High Idle Question

Went to the dealer yesterday to have make an appointment for TSB 18-037-04 & asked about having the high idle enabled. Service writer told me that they were not enabeling it for warm up, only for certain starting problems. Anyone been told the same thing??

I will post agin on the TSB after I get some miles on the truck. Right now I've got 10,000 miles, & the city/hwy mpg is around 14.5 to 15. Got up to 20 mpg all hwy on a 200 mi trip.

First of all..when you go to the dealer for a tsb...do your homework first..so they don't have the upper hand on you. Read the tsb and complain about the exact problems described on the tsb..for example..18-037-04..white smoke at start up..inaccurate overhead console etc..
Then..tell them since they are re-flashing your truck with that tsb...will they please enable your high idle while they are doing it...that particular tsb actually provides the high idle..it just needs to be turned on..they can do it all at once..
Gave me no problems at all at my dealer..

YEP! What pquested stated. I brought in the TSB when I was having the oil changed and gave it to them. First question was "Why do you want this done?". Your response MUST be close to what the TSB is wriiten for. DONE! When I go to New Mexico, it does get freakin cold there in the mountains and I do not like idling that thing for long just to get heat.

Even with the TSB the only way mine would ever see 20mpg would be empty, going down 10% grade with a 30mph tail wind. My overhead has never read higher that 18 and that was 1.5 mpg higher than hand calculated on a 70mph 400 mile flat trip.

Typical dealer bull. You should ask the brain-surgeon service writer, "what startup problems are there?". Is the service writer admitting to startup problems for the Dodge Ram diesel? The next question would be, "what would intentionally revving the engine after engine start possibly do to solve an engine start up problem?" What a complete dork!

If you have the option of finding another dealer who will take care of you, go for it.

Had the reflash done this past Friday. I talked to another service writer about the fast idel & she said "sure, we'll do it" ! Guess I asked the wrong person the first time. They all seem to ask WHY you want the reflash done, but if you do your homework, it's not hard to give them the "right" answer. Haven't driven the truck much since Friday - we had a big ice storm in the Portland, OR area, but on the drive in to work this morning I did notice the truck shifted smoother & seemed to accelerate faster...(it was probably just glad to see me after sitting in ice all weekend!)
