Emergency brake problem
Emergency brake problem
Howdy, all.
I've got an issue that I need help with.
I have a 2003 3500 dually. I just recently had the bed replaced at a car dealership that was selling some take-offs.
When I parked the truck to have the bed removed, the e-brake worked fine.
When I moved the truck to have the new bed put on, the e-brake didn't work.
And it still doesn't work now that the new bed (a 2005) is on.
The e-brake pedal has a fraction of the tension it used to have. But when I push it, I can see the cable and associated connectors moving at each rear wheel. The adjustment point just behind the cab looks to be tightened almost all the way down.
What could have changed when they took off the old bed? What should I look for?
Thanks in advance

Have you followed the cable from the cab back and make sure that there arn't any brackets loose that hold it to frame. that will cause problems. I'm not sure if these trucks are set up like that or not, but IMO I would check.
If theres nothing obvouse then it may be that sometimes there are metal hooks that go into the frame and rap around the cable and hold the cable in place , with one of those missing [ what I'm talking about are bacicly a hook at both ends and if unhooked at one end can fall off the other end ] then the hole thing has lost a large part of its tension , that the adjuster can not make up for .
Does it seem that there is a spot were the cable hangs down ?
Another one could be that at the end of the single cable going to the r. splits into 2 and at that point theres like a bar were 2 cables from both sides of the r. axial hook into a bar that has three posissions ,the third for the 1 going to the ft. and they may have bumped it and cocked to one side.
All this is generic , I'm not saying that this is whats under your yr & md , just what I've seen under the average truck.

Turns out it's the "backing plate" that is broken.
Dunno what the dealership is talking about.
But it's gonna cost $500 to get it fixed.
I'm gonna ask to see the broken parts. I wanna know what happened.
