Emergency Brake Cable
Emergency Brake Cable
Need to replace emergency brake cable to passenger rear wheel. Don't want to go into the reasons why, but it is not a warranty issue. $tealership wants $60 for parts and $320 for labor. This seems really high to me - anybody else had this done?
The passenger side cable is the longest cable in the assembly. Can't comment on the cost of the cable but it doesn't seem way out of line or anything. I replaced the very same cable this past spring. However, it took me all of a 1/2 hour or so to remove the old cable, install the new one and adjust it. I'd assume the steelership would charge no less than an hour so, IMO, it is fair to say that job should have a one hour shop charge. I'll also assume they don't work for $320/hour......make no bones about it, $320 for labour to change that particular cable is a rip off.
Thanks for the input. I was thinking the same thing - about an hour. Local Midas shop agrees, so I am buying the part at the ******* and taking the rig Midas for labor at $75/hour. The guy at Midas says that even if he had to take the rear wheel apart to adjust the e-brake assembly, it would be no more than 2 hours.
FWIW, ended up at 1.3 hours, which worked out to just under $100 at Midas. Grapevine Dodge wanted $320 for the same work. I guess the new profit model at Dodge is to sell 'em cheap and gouge for service...sigh.
