which donaldson is close to a factory fit

sorrry for all the questions lately guys last one for a bit i promise.
i searched the dtr wiki and didnt see a definite answer.

which model and length would be the best(or you recommend) to remove the stock muffler and slide in a donaldson, also i seen somebody needed a s adapter is that something neeeded also?

im looking for something with Same noise level as stock or very close not Louder, just want to let it breathe better

On my 04.5, I simply had a muffler shop replace the factory muffler with a straight piece of pipe - runs on an angle but it was a cheap and easy replacement. I ran awhile without a muffler and after 6 months I had enough of the deep loud sound. Currently have a stainless straight through muffler I bought off of ebay, best $60 bucks I spent. Sound is good, not annoying.

Do a search, key where you locate the muffler to reduce the drone.

Believe it or not, I think I picked up mpg w/ the muffler on.

The quietest muffler is stock. Defiant Truck Products has a Shuttleworth HD Diesel Muffler available in stock length for splice-in. It has a throatier tone but no cab drone. Paul Fox can explain it to you,but nothing's as quiet as stock. When you see it disected you'll know why. The gases go through a maze before exiting.

"some used i think a 40" , and some a 50" maybe"
trying to figure out which is the easiest to slide in place i'm hoping to take apart without cutting

If you want quiet, go with the longer muffler (50"). There's more chamber on the 50" to absorb the resonance. The 40" tho I think will fit in better with less modifying than the 50, but I could be wrong. Either way you're probably going to have to do some modifying.

Donaldson M120100 - quite, and a direct replacement. It flows the same as the 51" donaldson that many use, but it fits in the stock location, and is as quiet as stock. My wife hasen't even noticed it's not stock. The tone is just slightly deeper. The inlet and outlet is off set so it fits the stock configuration - just cut the old one out, and slide the new one in. I just cut the hangers off of the stock muff, and welded them to the donaldson. I really dont like the sound of the common rail exhaust, but wanted the performance of a high flow muffler - works great!

What does just sliding the new one in do to the angle of your tail pipe?

Looks like stock. Will try to get some pics tomorrow. I've got a dog in my lap and a beer in my hand now.

Last year I had the muffler shop put in the 51" donaldson, on my 05 2500 4x4 ctd laramie. When they first saw it they said no way this thing is gonna fit! After a little study they cut about 8" off the cat pipe and slid this one one, adding a couple brackets. Did not change the way the tailpipe sits. Sweet muffler, no drone. Oh and I think I better go and have a little wabbly pop myself. Cheers.
