Help: Rear brake, emergency cable

I'm doing my D250 brakes with D350 shoes/cylinders.

When I took it apart, the cable doesn't look like it was connected at all to the lever arm. How does it connect? Looked in the FSM and I need a picture.

Seems like I need a retainer or something..????

There is a little round metal retainer that locks the barrel end of the cable to the lever...Mark

What Mark said.

It's sheetmetal clip that falls off, and disappears. I had the same problem until I bought a new cable and understood just how it attached.

There is a small retainer. It looks more like a cap that slips over the stop on the end of the cable. Here's a closer look at how the parking brake cables attach to the lever. This is the axle I went through from my '91.5 before I put it under my '90. The previous owner of the '91.5 actually drilled 2 small holes in the end of the lever on either side of the notch the cable locks into. With that he (and i), used a short length of metal wire to ensure the cables don't slip out as they commonly do.
