Question Electric Shift On The Fly

Has anyone had problems with the ESF? And can you order a new MegaCab with a regular manual shift lever?

Thanks,

Dave

Do a search , it has been asked many times . Mine has been flawless and I would get it again but at first I wanted the old tried and true but it has now grown on me . I do not know if it has changed but you could only get the floor shift on the less expensive modals . If you wanted the better packages you were stuck with electric shift . I like the floor space and have yet to find one that has failed . I did read about one not plugged in from the factory and it was a easy fix , other than that I could find nothing bad .

I would NOT sweat it.

Look, your truck has THOUSANDS of electronic devices controlling shifting, braking, fuel delivery, etc. etc..

Now, a simple electronic 4x4 switch is nothing to worry about. These things will never break.

mine has done well, and I get on some pretty awful roads out in the oilfield...

..there were some folks talking that they didn't like the electric shifter for the 4 wheel drive because of the plastic pin and all, but I have yet to have mine miss a beat...

Thanks for all your replys. When bought my 02 Powerjoke I got manual locks and manual shift (old school) for reasons of reliability. I am thinking of buying a 06 MegaCab with the CDT and 6 spd. and was just wondering if Dodge offers it in manual locks and manual shift. I do like not having to get out of the truck to put it in 4wd, especially backing up a steep loose surface road.

No problems here. I love it! The megacab's only option is on the fly. (I think because of the air going to the back) With all of the electronics these days the 4wd switch is the least of my worries.

I wanted the manual shift, but it wasn't offered on the Laramie. So I took the chance and have had no problems with the switch. The added floor space is a plus too.
