Electric Brakes

Where have you placed your Brake controller?
We have the prodigy and have been trying to find the
best location. I use the ashtray to hold the cell phone so that location is out.
Do you have any pictures of your controller installed? ???
I just hate the thought of putting screws into the new truck
to mount the prodigy :-[
I do not have much faith in double side tape to hold the mounting bracket. What can you suggest ;D
Re:Electric Brakes

I removed the ash tray assembly completly. This leaves a rather large space. I placed my Prodigy at the bottom of this space. I don't try to use double sided tape. Instead I purchased heavy duty adhesive Velcro. It sticks good and makes objects removable.

Try finding a different place for the cell phone. It is more important to find a secure, solid, and handy place for the brake controller than the cell phone. The Velcro will give you lots of options for your cell phone.
See attached pic of Prodigy:

Re:Electric Brakes

Q. Are Dodge trucks prewired underneath the dash with an electric plug for the electric brake controller to plug into? I know Ford does all their trucks that way and didn't know if Dodge did the same. Thanks. Buzz

Buzz

2003 trucks are, took my canopy installer less than 5 minutes to install my Prodigy with my provided Camping World Dodge Prodigy adaptor, (truck came with one in the glove box) but they woulda had to splice wires. Camping World sells one with both plug in ends on it for less than $9

If you have the Trailer Tow Package Installed from the factory, otherwise, me thinks you might be on your own, not sure?

Anyone know?

Hunter

Re:Electric Brakes

My controller wiring harness was in plastic bag in glove box. Instructions came with it tells you where to plug it in under dash. I used crimp connectors to join the two. Plenty of room to hide the extra wires.

Re:Electric Brakes

My truck did come with Trailer tow package. Now that you mention it; there is a plastic bag in the glove box. I better take a look, huh? :-[

Re:Electric Brakes

Yep, Just like you said. The wiring is in the glove box! :-[
I've been so excited about owning a Cummins that I've overlooked some of the obvious things on my truck. Want to hear another funny one? I was looking at the window sticker last night and saw the Steering Wheel Audio Controls listed. I told my wife we didn't have them and all that was on the steering wheel was the cruise buttons. I decided to go have a look...I found them behind the steering wheel. What a nice surprise! (I didn't get that far in the owners manual!)
Thanks for your help, guys!

Re:Electric Brakes

Buzz, one nice thig about "Owners Manual" it's full of surprises. Should immediately read the basics to get started. After drivin the baby for a couple of weeks should open it up again and study it thoroughly. That's when you tell yourself, "Oh, that's what that thing is for."

Re:Electric Brakes

My accessory shop installed my prodigy the same way Hunter's is. Should work great. That model prodigy applys differential braking depending on the deceleration of the vehicle and is wired to the brake light switch rather than to the pedal, so the adjustable pedal doesn't matter. Also, don't know if your dealer told you, but they've upped the weight for the Class IV hitch from 10,000# to 12,000# and say that if you go heavier than that you should use a 5th wheel.

Re:Electric Brakes

Sierra Phil,

Did you ever find those pics of the controller installed in the ash tray hole with two gauges with it? Boy that looked nice.

Incidently, for those curious about the adapter for the Jordan controller, it should be available in about 4 more weeks for the Dodge adjustable pedals. I can't wait. Been trying to steal his prototype so I can get hooked up and go. If I can't, I am going to install with the normal bracket and not move the pedals until the new bracket is available. Love the feel of that Jordan.

Bob
