ECM question

Is there anywhere else to buy and ECM from besides the dealership? They just quoted $2200.00 plus labor! I have 240,000 on my 2005 and it has been throwing codes on and off all summer. Every time I took it in to dealer they could ever get to act up, they tracked wires and tested each one. The last time they said if throws a code and goes not running right leave it running and bring in. Well that was 3 weeks ago, this morning it threw codes and wouldn't run right, so drove in, they put computer on and said that it could only be one of two things : wiring or ECM, well the last time they had it tracing wires it was down for 4 days and they all checked out, so now I am left with ECM. Anybody got any other ideas? I work with my truck everyday and need it running right, and please don't suggest trade it in like the sales manager offered me this morning

I forget the name, but when I thought mine was bad, I googled ecm and there is site that sells warranted ones. I think around $900 if I remember correct.

Why would they think its the ECM?? Because they tested "wires"?

Looking the code up looks to be the 1-3 injector circuit. You can ohm out your injectors and see if you have one going. Especially with the mileage its not uncommon.

My experience when an eçm goes it goes. There is no mistaking because the truck is dead.

Sounds like a typical dealer.

Thanks for the information. I wish I could remember all of the codes, but I was a little worked up at 7:00 am this morning when I knew what all I had to get done today with my truck! The last time they worked on it the diesel tech traced and tested very wire and injector, unfortunately that tech walked out of work last week! He wanted to leave it running next time it threw a code so he could pull cover off and test the injectors to double check.

First time I ever heard pulling the cover while running to check the injectors! Sounds like it is a messy disaster to do that. The injectors are electronic. The ohms can be tested through the plug on the outside.

If you get a bad reading then you take the cover off to check the actual injector. Most of the time they are bad then they are bad and the ohms tell you that. Rarely they are intermittent.

One possibility is I noticed in your signature you had them replaced. Its possible the little nuts on top of the injector are just loose and that would explain the intermittent issue.

The valve cover is so easy to remove you could do it yourself and check.

Well it sounded like it would be a mess, but that was what they were telling me. The shop that did my injectors was very particular when they did them but I also have a lot of miles since they were put on. My big problem is I don't have time to mess with it since I am getting farm work done.

Dodge has a issue with some ecu's that cause them to act up when warm. Not see it on the diesels but have seen it on some mid 2k 1500's flipping flipping nightmare to track down. Shutting down is a major factor as well as dash clusters going out and back on. First one I found I thought it was a ignition issue. If your loosing 3 injectors I I would be suspicious of the harness honestly.

for life so I don't need it. $305 plus shipping if you are interested.
