It is the same as Stanadyne just bottled for John Deere. Cheaper too !!

I am new to the diesel arena (2,000 miles on my 04.5 Cummins) and I am fascinated about all the discussion of fuel additives.
Being an old GAS guy, I never would have thought about adding anything to the fuel...I assumed that the fuel at the pump has all that I need...
Now I read about all the additives for diesel fuel and it seems like lots of folks use them a lot...up to quarts per tank full or more!!!
Is the diesel fuel that bad, or are most folks just going beyond the minimum to maintain their trucks???
What is a person NEVER used any diesel fuel additive? Does the engine quit or blow up or ????

I'm just lazy and gave up on the math so I end up just dumping a 1qt. jug of the power service in at fill up. I know that is on the heavy side as some guys are only dumping in 8oz. at fill up but what the heck.
That and it's cheaper than Stanadyne.

zog welcone to the wonderful world of diesels.
There are several reasons to use additives and no your truck will go up in flames going down the road.
Due to the feds cracking down on sulphur emmisions, todays diesel fuel has a lower sulphur content than diesel of the past.
Sulphur in diesel actually acted as a lubricant.
Therefore the main reason I use additives is to add lubrication back to the fuel.
Can you run without it, sure but I plan on having this truck awhile so think of it as insurance.
Most additives also raise the "cetane" level of diesel which means it makes diesel a little more combustible. This will give several benefits namely more power, better fuel mileage, and less smoke.
I know other folks here can explain the techinical side of this better but I hope it helps.
