Exclamation Dually owners check your tire pressure!

Don't take for granted that you've got four wheels on the back to keep things safe. Don't complain that it's too hard to put air in the rear tires or for that matter check them. Did the rotate on my F-N-L's '08 3500 today. Outside rear tire had 10 lbs in it! You couldn't tell by looking at it as the inner was holding things up just fine. Had it not been a dually it could have been noticed pretty quickly. Took out the two inch nail, gave it a plug for today and told him to take it into town this week to get it fixed right. I check mine reguarly and anything more than a few pounds off warrants an inspection. Bought him a good air gauge with a hose and the long back to back tip. Also helps to have the extenders on the valves.

Happy trucking

Chris

Checking tire YES, but don't add the extenders....I didn't listen and had tire shop put metal flex extenders on and one came loose and tore out of inside rear tire, and that tire was flat for a period of time...they thought it was ok and put it on front of truck and it blew before I could get home...so all extenders are history to me.....

Post my 2 cents

yeah, here's another vote for the "No Extenders" school of thought! They cause waaaaaay more problems than they solve. I've had nothing but grief with extenders until I finally stopped using them. They are a ticking time bomb for trucks that see "real-world" use.

Camping World has several products to monitor air pressure and temp in your tires. Its intended to be used on fifth wheel trailers and other RV's but it will work fine on trucks that don't tow.

They use a battery powered valve stem cap with a wireless transmitting that shows in the truck cab whats going on with tire temp and pressure.

One of the units is less than 200 dollars and the other is 360 dollars. Comes with six sensors. More can be purchased seperately.

Only problem here is you have to remove your outside tire to add air to the
inside tire on the dually. Like I said its really made for trailers.

Tire Valves

These replacement valves work great and make checking and airing your tire super simple. Way overpriced, but I wouldn't be without them now - http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/%7Etire-man/kit3.html

They are NOT extenders - They are replacements
If you do front to rear tire rotations these are not for you because the valve is specific to each tire location. I just do left/right rotations anyway as I have found them to wear better that way.

I had trouble with the flexible extenders from Genos. I returned them and found some rigid ones at NAPA that work fine. Geno's gave me full refund, great company.

I'm not trying to hijack here, but I have had extenders on the inner rears for 38,000 miles now and have never had any problems. I don't put massive amounts of weight on the rear. Do you guys who have had blow outs with them pull heavy? Do you think this was the cause? Just curious

PS. I check my tires once a week, it's an OCD thing I guess.

I too have had an extender pull out the stem on my inner wheel. Never would have dreamed it. Had them on for a total of 75k. Only time will tell.

I too have the concern of extenders causing a blow out so I just use a long extension double head Milton gauge to check the pressures. Makes it simple so I don't have to take the tires off and I don't have to worry about a blow out.

Sorry guys on the extender things. I didn't mean the long hose type. Just the short plastic ones about an inch long so the back to back nozzle works.

Sorry for the confusion.
