Dual Rear Wheels to Singles??

Dual Rear Wheels to Singles??
Is it possible to remove the flares from a 3500 DRW truck, remove one wheel on each side and use it for a SRW truck.
The flares look like they would come off easily.
The space occupied by the flares could be filled in with a panel...
This is only for about 6 months of the year then I would want to put it back to Dual Rears, take off the panel, put on the flares and bolt on the extra wheel on each side...
Am i missing something that would not allow this to be done easily???
I am not too concerned about appearances with the panel that replaces the flares as it is just a work truck....

I have been thinking about the same thing, except leaving the fender flares on and running a wide tire (12.50) and a 10" rim with about 5" backspace in the back. Would I need to remove the front hub spacer to run these wheels/tires?
I don't haul anything that requires a dually, so load capacity is not a concern.

I thought about doing that when I was trying to figure out how I wanted to build my hauler bed. I was going to remove the front spacers and put on stock size 3/4T wheels and tire and then find super singles for the rear. The dually rear axle is a few inches wider the the SRW axle so the rear track would be a little wide (I figured about 3") for a SRW box. I decided the hassle of finding matching wheel styles, covers and then finding the right tires wasn't worth it for me but I think it would have looked really good with a bed built to complement the wider track and also carry more load than a normal SRW. I dont know bout the 3rd gen but the 2nd gen dodges have about a dozen holes on each side holding the fender on. you wont have a secondary filler hos hole like the 90's models, bt if the fender are bolted on the same way, you wont take them off but once, and plan about half a day to do it. Its a tight fit, and takes forever. Not to mention that the inner fender is cut in the center on duallys

Need diff. truck or just a lil' messaging?
I'm in the same boat here. I'd like to make mine an SRW. My question is, do the hubs stick out further on the dually axle? And, do the hubs even stick out on a 1ton and 3/4ton SRW? Reason being, I'd like to get some wheels without top hats and I wanna' know what I'm gonna' need to do to my dually. I aware of the need to get a standard side bed.

Other than length, how are the rear axles diferrent? From a picture I saw it looks like there may be a spacer on the rear, similar to the spacer on the front. If there is a spacer is it removable?

I don't remember seeing a spacer on my rear axle but the axle is longer and flanges are wider - I think about 3" so you'd probably need flares on a srw box to catch the mud and splatter. Craig

Greg Boardman's Big Red was a dually conversion.

I know of a guy that took a srw 2500 2nd gen and turned it into a dually by swapping out the rims and putting spacers on the front and of course adding the fenders in the rear, but I dont know how well it would work out on a new dodge.
