DRW and Fuel Economy ??? SRW to DRW COnversion
The wheels that I have are only 9'' (20x9) wide....before that I used a 8'' (17x8) wide wheel with stock size tires, it's the offset and the back space that makes the truck handle better....wider stance. It's like having the drw, just shy of 3''-4'' on each side.
The 17x8 w/stock size tires is what I had on when I towed a 45' enclosed alum. trailer (#6100ish) and with 50-60 mph winds hitting the side of the trailer and not really feeling it unless going by a big rig that blocked the wind while passing it. At that point, I did feel the lane dividing bumps...but still stayed in my lane.
I don't have the measurements of a drw but here's where I'm at... 84'' with 10'' of rubber/tread hitting the ground.
Just trying to help ya and sharing my experiences....

So I am contemplating a SRW to DRW conversion on my 2006 Megacab. The only reason for this is my daughter is running the National Snocross circuit and we are towing our 40' G'neck long distances now. I know the DRW will give me much greater stability, but the SRW is easier to drive as a daily driver. One friend says I may LOSE mileage going to a DRW. The trailer loaded is about 9,000-10,000 total, and mainly used December thru end of March.
I am currently getting around 10 mpg towing. I have 265/70R17 Michelin LTX AT2 tires on it now. Truck has mufler removed and Bully Dog Triple Dog on Tow/Economy setting 5.9 with auto
Please chime in with your experiences and any opinions, suggestions plusses and minuses of converting. A new truck IS NOT an option.

I STILL have my original (dually) rear axle on my truck. I really really REALLY want to find someone that is interested in converting to a dually that is willing to swap axles with me. any single rear wheel 2500 of 3500 axle with a 4.10 ratio will work. You can have the front dually wheel adapters for free. There has got to be someone out there who wants to make their 2500 a dually...

I am in Fresno CA. I would love a 3.73 but mine is 4x4 and the axle ratios have to match. If you have a 4x4 we can swap both??? Other option is swapping the ring gear on the rear axle. I have all the tools and really want to get this done. My truck has 35,000 miles and my axle is in perfect condition.
