Drove a 600 and !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wife got a new job and wants my truck so I went looking tonight. Went and drove my truck with a 600 in it. Well it was bright red not maroon but other than that it was the same. When I got in the truck the bottom dropped out of the sky a huge thunderstorm. I could not notice a huge diff. Fuel milage was about what my 03 was on the overhead during the test 15 or so. I could not notice a noise diff.
O.k. so I also drove a new GMC with the max LLY and the Allison. It did not really fell much diff than my truck power wise. I like the interior a bit better but I grew up driving a GMC. They both are o.k. I may go with the GMC for the auto. I know the new 48re is better than the old 47 but I made my self a promise to never own a Dodge Auto ever again. O.K. so I guess every one will give me a hard time now but .

Careful.... going to another brand for the tranny forces you to take the rest. The Duramax is not perfect. I would rather be replacing my 48RE under warranty or not than waiting for injectors to let go on the Dmax. Especially the LLY

Test drove a Duramax the other day. My father wanted to convert me back to Chevy, family owned dealership. I haven't owned a Chevy for 20 years.
Good things I liked;
1. Lots of electronic gadgets. Too many things to go wrong
2. Comfortable seating, front and rear
3. Dual temp control... digital adjustments, nice touch
4. Quiet engine and drive
5. Nice brakes on the system
6. Allison tranny is tight, smooth shifting, great for auto's
7. Salesman kept saying they need to add the Cummins to the Allison transmission for an unbeatable combination.
Things I didn't like;
1. Duramax has GLOWPLUGS, 8 of them, assuming one for each cylinder
2. Life expendency is about 200,000 - 300,000 miles and then you get to replace the engine.
3. EGR!!
4. Flakey injectors, even with an extended warranty period, the time and inconvenience isn't worth the risk.
I would not purchase the 48RE just yet. It is too new and hasn't been time and mileage tested. I have a 6 speed on order and will row my truck down the streets. The last Auto I had on a CTD was just gutless. There was no power at all to pull with. I traded it in for an HO with 6 speed. It was just the right touch. Smooth and powerfull. I would not personally purchase the Duramax, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Good luck on your purchase.

At this point it does not matter the wife changed her mind last night . I will not be getting rid of my truck till the wife decides to make a move. Sure would like to have two diesels in the drive way though.
