Drag Racing an HO 6-sp

Not that I would ever do such a thing but just in case someone should ask me, has anyone done this yet? How would you build boost to launch it? What gear would you take off in? Do you get a lot of axle tramp? Just curious . . .

The Boss Hog
(bored in Florida ;D)

Haven't driven the 3.73's yet but the 4.10 would launch in 3rd, with a little bog off the line. I would say launch in 2nd, skip to 4th about 2600, then 5th. Keep the revs up once you get rolling as not to lose speed.

Burn'Bob,
I am shocked I ask a perfectly innocent question and you, the only friend I have in the world, accuses me, The Mellow Hog, of (gasp) BURNING RUBBER . . . . . ;D did Doris rat on me?

That's what that east coast does to perfectly normal people. See, you were mellow yellow - - now you are wound up Pepsi and spewin' rubber all over the Alley. You should learn the mellow from your west coast buddies - - like LaidBackSpots - - and MellowBob. 8) 8)

ps: Doris?? Who is Doris? Oh, tell her it was nice talking to her.

Ive tried that technique a few times,, I can't get it to work for a flip but some people have (CUMMNTSRKN aka Jim Fuller when he had a manual had good results)

I would launch at 2,200 RPM,, ride the clutch a little bit,, don't "DUMP" it,, then keep your foot on the floor using every gear.

I shift when power starts falling off,, around 2,900 RPM (2nd gen 24V)

You should get better times keeping the RPM up,, Try hard to keep it at, or above 2,000RPM when upshifting, which means when you shift from 2nd to 3rd, the RPM when you hit 3rd shouldn't fall below 2K, and on and on for 3rd -6th.

I don't build boost on the line, Personally, I like my $1,200 clutch more than that...

Hope this helps.
