I don't mean to step on any of your toes. It may be obnoxious to everyone around you, but disabling the horn feature by pulling the fuse is dangerous. However, I do find it acceptable to put it on a switch that is to be used when backing up with the door intentionally left open. I also understand why you feel embarrased, as I too felt that way until I just trained myself to close the door before taking it out of gear. I still get a reminder honk on occassion when I forget to close the door.

I understand I am a driving disaster now without a horn, BUT, if Dodge hadn't of put this ignorant horn blowing on the truck in the first place it wouldn't be an issue at all. It would be like all the Chevy's and GMC's I drove for 28 years before I got this thing. I never had an issue with them. It is like we are driving an experimental vehicle. Dodge should have got these issues worked out of the trucks before they put them in production.

I have Air horns on my truck wired into the Horn system.. So far I have been able to avoid the Park Alarm "feature" .. If it does wind up on my truck I plan on installing a switch to disable the horn. I have been looking at the plastic area to the left of the steering wheel next to the knee board.. Looks like I can get a couple of switches in there and still look clean..

I put the hook-up for my plow controls under my cup holder. When it's folded you don't even know it exists.

I have been thinking about this problem since they (THE EVIL ONES - THE DEALERSHIP) forced the unwanted feature down my throat without me knowing it until it was too late. Anyway, the horn goes off when the door is opened, the truck is in gear and the brake is not fully depressed so, what if you put a switch in line with the door switch where you turn it off or make the switch think it's still closed (a bypass). This way you still have your horn when needed and the only thing you dont have is notification your door is "AJAR". Flip the switch and you know when your door is open, flip it again and no horn but the door can be opened while in gear. I plan on trying this over the weekend to see if it will work.

Has anyone tried this? Does anyone see a potential problem with this approach?

Unless something has changed very recently the horn, etc., issues are backing up with the door open and your seatbelt undone. One could join the seatbelt again if backing a trailer or something of that nature, but....see next paragraph.

When you check your seat belt you'll see that a switch is made when the belt is joined - so - just carry on down to the side of your seat almost at floor level and you'll find a connector. This is a two wire connector that you want to disconnect and then take a piece of wire (I used one strand of wire from a piece of copper wire I had around) and stick it into the two female connectors - just "U" shape it and we're only talking a 1/2" or so of wire here - and plug the male connection back in. Now the system thinks the seat belt is connected even when it's not and, voila, end of problem.

Something has changed on mine. I have the seat belt switch scotch locked and it makes no difference on the horn blowing. What I have on my mind is like the previous poster reccommended, bypassing the door switch. It looks like is is built on the latch and the door panel would have to be removed unless someone else knows the color code of the wires and where they go when they come in the truck. I don't have a service manual for mine.

so how do you back up large trailers? small trailers?
when the windows & mirrors are fogged over?

i almost always found myself with the door open when i had a 8.5x24 car carrier,

and i use a little utility trailer that i hook to my truck for a week at a time, and in the morning, my neighbor's don't want to hear my horn. they get when you honk the horn.

you can't see it over the bed (too short) so out the door is usually the only option, if you don't have a tall load in it.

my seat belt wires were cut & shorted together the first week i owned the truck - so i don't think that is the fix. the fix is not to build "an experimental vehicle" to see if it will stay in PARK when it says PARK.

We have a smallish, screwed up parking lot here at work. I find it easier to park the Dodge if I back it in, opening the door slightly so I can make sure I'm between the lines. The "back-up alarm" feature would be a disaster in this case.

Glad my dealer said "we only perform that recall if the customer specifically askes for it".

Ive never seen such impatient people as what im reading on this thread. I agree that the first few times my horn honked, i was a bit ticked off, but Its obviously a safety issue and was implemented because of a few careless drivers. You also have to be smarter than the truck, for instance, if need your door open in reverse, then hook up your seat belt, that might take all of 2 seconds. If you gotta grab your morning paper outta the mail box, then put it in park, again that might take all of 2 or 3 seconds. I sure would hate to think what would happen if you had a screaming baby in your truck, jeez.

My thoughts to a "T". If this were the other way around, and it has been in another post, everyone would be complaining that they had ran something or somebody over. The fact is it's not a problem with the trucks but with the drivers. If we all just take the time to put and make sure your truck is in park then none of this post would even be here. If you just slam the lever up to park it can and will bounce back down to reverse, not the trucks fault, they are not made for that kind of abuse. just my .02
