Dex Cool
Dex Cool
Just changed out my water pump and went to O'Reillys to get some HOAT anti freeze to put back in the cooling system. The auto parts person looked up the type for Dodge and said that this new DEX Cool would be ok as it was HOAT and ok. Has anyone used this brand yet? I know I use DEX Cool in my wifes Chevy Tahoe. I have not added it yet as I want to make sure it is good to go.
Also I found an in line vent cannister that had found its way along side the bottom of the radiator. Not sure what it is for but I think the guy who did my AC last year might of dropped it and forgot it. Anyone know what it is for? Not part of my truck I don't think...Thanks

I do not think that Dex Cool is HOAT. If it does not say it is HOAT on the bottle then it is not HOAT.
If is not HOAT do not mix it with your coolant in the truck.
Zerex GO-5 is HOAT and is the only HOAT that I know of outside 3 dealerships, Chrysler, Ford and Mercedes.

The licensed DexCool coolant and it's clones in the 150/5 variety are OAT(organic acid technology formulated coolants. The DexCool formulation is a first generation OAT coolant that is specd. for GM vehicles. This OATformulation does not include phosphates, borates, silicates or nitrites found in the HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) formulated coolant. Given that the coolant you mention is not formulated with the same additives as a HOAT formulation,it does not meet Chryslers coolant specification as recommended for our vehicles. A call to Prestone a year or so ago, revealed that they do not manufacture a HOAT specific formula.
Yes! Napa carries Zerex G-05. The NAPA part # for the concentrate is ZXG051.
NAPA carries the entire Valvoline product line. If they don't have it on the shelves or behind the counter, they can order it for you. CarQuest typically stocks it as well. In the event that they do not stock it on their shelves, ask them to order it. It is also considered a best practice to dilute it with distilled water as it free of impurities.
