Dex Cool..

Need opinions here.... I changed the 2002's radiator hoses and went shopping for coolant. The truck had Green in it when i changed the hoses. I also own a 2007 5.9 so wanted to see if there was a coolant that would work as an "Emergency" fix for the 07 and also could use in the 2002 to fill it back up. I ran across the New Dex cool and read the bottle VERY CAREFULLY. It says that the coolant is for Chrysler vehicles 2001 and NEWER and is compaitble with OAT and HOAT vehicles requiring G-05 ( My 07). SO thats what I refilled with..... I have been getting some conflicting reports on if this was a good Idea.... SOme say it;s OK, others say drain immediatly.. any ideas??? Thanks!

if your 02 had standard green glycol coolant in it, DO NOT!!!! mix it with dex cool. it will form a sugary sludge in the cooling passages, that will clog everything up.

I have dealt with this on many occasions, and I warn people about it as much as I can. A hot tank doesn't even clean the sludge out properly.

Just go with whatever is already in there, unless you can do a complete flush, and be 100% sure that all the old coolant is out.

good luck

Yeah, you have to do a complete flush, heater core, engine, radiator get all the green out and then add the dex. If not you'll have a nasty looking brown in your resevoir, kinda like old pondwater. Seen it many times.

My truck came with green coolant and I switched over to G0-5 a few years ago because I believe G0-5 to be a superior coolant. You will be fine, in spite of the concern expressed in some of the replies.

G0-5 is not the same as Dexcool. For more info check out Bobistheoilguy forum.
