Dash Lights dimming switch

Forgive me if this has been covered. The search is disabled.

I was driving home last night and was going to dim the lights on dash guages.. turned the wheel down, but no dimming? Is mine messed up, or is that wheel not for dimming the inside guages?

What's better is when you wipe the dash down and unknowingly dim the lights. Later that night, you can wonder what in the world happend to the lights. Then you can check fuses and door switches for the next 1/2 hour. But I've never done it.

Back in 1987 my dad bought a new cheby truck. (he was driving a 93 cummins when he passed away in 96) We both were working a rotating shift and he was working 11p-7a. He came by my house one night, and said "how do you dim the headlights on this darn truck". I went out and showed him it was on the turn signal switch. He said he had almost kicked a hole in the floorboard trying to find that dimmer switch. He had driven it on high beam for a week.
