Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
Shortly after starting my truck the lights dim and brighten for a minute or so. Is the air heater coil causing that? It also makes a click each time they dim or brighten, as if a relay was engaging / disengaging.

Thanks in advance.
Re:Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
My SO does the same thing, very annoying. I think its a fan or something that is drawing some major current to make the truck do that. Mine only does it when I first start it up and goes for about 5 minutes. ???
Re:Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
It is the manifold heaters cycling on and off. They draw a huge amount of power. You get used to it.
My hat goes off to "driver" who actually read the manual. ;D

Totaly Normal.
And probably the most asked question I've seen on any Dodge Diesel website. ;D
Kinda spooky if you're not expecting it huh?

Re:Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
Yeah, that's normal for the lights to dim and to hear the clicking noise. However, if you go ahead and start driving down the road, the grid heaters will quit cycling once the vehicle reaches 20mph (I read the manual, too).
That will end all of the dimming and clicking.

I don't have to wait until Spring to hear the chirp. It does it now. I also read my owners manual which states that it is also a normal noise.

Re:Air heater coil power draw - lights dimming
I too am new to these diesels and just got mine 3 days ago. Tonight I pulled into the garage after work and noticed a chirp when I shut her down. Opened the hood and looked but saw nothin', then I noticed the neighbors cat under the front wheel.
