Dash Guages Losing Power Intermittently

So all of my gauges in the dash and radio have started dying and coming back on intermittently. The outage can last as long as 15 minutes or 5 seconds and everything comes back on. There are no common factors when this happens. Riding with a tech and using his computer the main errors that he saw were the spike in power. All the other errors were due to losing the power. Their recommendation is to purchase a new ECM.. Suggestions? I need to make a quick decision on this because it is my primary vehicle.

The 2006 cluster is notoriuos for being manufactured with bad solder joints which are made worse by the slight curve that is induced when it is mounted in the dash. Most of these affect the tachometer, but they can also effect other gauges.

Do a search on Cumminsforum for 2006 tach issues--

one of the threads there has a decent fix with pics by removing the cluster and reflowing some of the solder joints, then reinstalling with either washers or leaving out a few of the screws...or you can buy a replacement cluster (not ecm) and have the odometer reprogrammed by a dealer and then install it.

I may have fixed it. Under the dash to the left of the pedals, there is the main harness, the one with the bolt in the middle that holds the two halves together. I was doing the "wiggle test" and that connection seemed to be the only place where I could get any change. Pulled it apart and it was full of dirt, hay, junk, etc. A couple pins looked very rough, like they had corrosion. I blew it out, sprayed with contact cleaner, blew it dry and reconnected. So far, so good.
looks like the dirt, hay, water and gotten in the plug from the backside of the plug, the upper side. the dirt would settle in the back side of the plug and vibrations from the truck/road, slowly let the dirt work its way down in to the connections and possible prevent good contact between the pins. THIS IS ONLY MY THEORY. we will see if I fixed it. Hoping its not he ECM.

ok. never mind. it was ok for a day. now its back. but wondering if the radio maybe shorting out and causing it. When playing my Ipod thru the factory radio, it will quit then the gauges start their usual failures. so I got annoyed and smacked the radio and all the gauges came back on and the ipod function worked flawlessly all day long. I may remove the radio and see if the gauges contuine to work normally. Will report back later
