How to Remove '06 Instrument Cluster??
I have serached and not found an answer.
Regarding the tach issues. I have found a repair shop (Mr. Whizzard) on the internet that repairs '06 tachs for $175.00 including shipping both ways and 2 yr warranty. I am going to try this and will post my results.
So,,,What is the procedure for removing the instrument cluster in an '06??

I dug through my service manual and it looks like you take the lower panel off that's down by your knees which is only a couple of screws on the bottom and a couple of pop clips that hold it in.
After that there looks like 5 screws and a couple of pop clips that hold the instrument cluster bezel to the instrument panel. Sort of hard to explain.
Instrument cluster bezel...
1 screw under the headlight switch
1 screw under the left 2 small gauges
1 screw under the right 2 small gauges
2 screws in the right side of the bezel
pop clips around the top that hold it in place
From the manual...
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument
panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/
CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL).
3. Remove the four screws (2) that secure the instrument
cluster (1) to the instrument panel structural
support (3).
4. Pull the instrument cluster rearward far enough to
access and disconnect the three instrument panel
wire harness connectors (2) from the connector
receptacles (1), C1, C3 and C4 from right to left on
the back of the cluster housing.
5. Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument
panel.
Good luck.

Me too. I am considering selling my truck now and figure I should fix it to make it easier to sell. Mine reads 0 RPM at idle. But when I use the High idle feature to warm the truck up it reads 1500 RPM just like before the tach started malfunctioning.
I'm also getting cold feet from a bad mode door, but that looks like a bigger project than I care to take on.

There were only 2 fixes,Mr Wizard or the dealer.I got mine replaced at a disscount from the dealer. They said they had never seen the problem before,I think most people had them go shortly after warranty and in the begining some guys went through 2 or 3 clusters before they got a good one, still some bad ones in inventory.
