when backing up w wheel turned as if parking
i feel a chattering
like the clutches in a differential
never had a 4x4 so not how to service or what to service and with what product
any guidance would be appreciated

Can you tell if it is coming from the front or back of the truck?

On the front, I'd look at the U joints on the front axles. In the rear end, AAM's limited slip doesn't have clutch disks and isn't supposed to need limited slip additive, but I read a thread were someone changed to a non-limited slip oil and had chatter and cured it with some additive.

 

Agreed, my 04 did the same thing when I had it. I added some friction Modifier to it ( Supposedly not needed) and it cured it right up!

my chevy race car had chatter just like im feeling now until i added the chevy limited slip additive
what if any additive is recommended (if you know)
i may start to get a relationship with a 4x4 place near me as i would hate to waste a diff.

2500/3500 Ram's switched from Dana to AAM in 2003. Service schedule if you tow or do short trips calls for oil change every 15k, using full synthetic 75-90 GL-5. My dealer says 75-140 if you tow in hot climates.

I asked Redline when I changed mine if I should use 75-140 which contains limited slip additive, or if would be better to use their 75-140 NS that has no LS additive.

They basically said the AAM limited slip system should not require additive, but that the additive actually reduces friction on the gears and wouldn't hurt anything.
