How to make check engine light go off?

Hey all, I was putting in a new air filter and I let my girlfriend start the truck with the intake tube off of the airbox lid to see how much air it sucks in... anyway, I forgot to plug in that little harness which I'm sure is what caused the engine light to come on.

I disconected the battery cables for 30 mins and that didn't help.

I put in the new K&N drop in the one that isn't flat, but cone shaped and it is huge!!! and man did it make a difference from a stock piece or the Nano drop in which is almost impossible to clean and it it clogs up too quickly for my taste which is killing my mileage.

the stock # is E-0776 and I have heard all the arguments over a K&N but I ran one for 180,000 miles on my last Dodge with no probs, till I sold her.

Give it a week and about 10-15 cycles on the key and eventually it will go out on its own.

He is correct. If the truck is a daily driver then it probably won't even take that long.... We've all done this......

My question is, why start the truck with no air filtration?? Isin't that risky?

Disconnect cables, hit the brakes(light) to draw the last bit of power.

Also, a good way to check(if you didnt know) the code its setting, cycle the key three times quickly to on(not start) and on the third one it will display the code(s).
EDIT: Sorry, thats for 03-05s, I dont think it works on 06+(key cycling)

I had a false CES light two weeks ago, low voltage to injectors, cleared the light by unhooking batteries, hit brakes, no problem since...

Unhooking the cables(s) dosen't clear the codes on any of the later trucks. If a minor and corrected CEL it will clear itself after a few good key cycles. The key off/on 3 times works all the way up to the 07's at least as it works on mine to read the internal codes stored. I have noticed you have to be a little faster cycling the key on the newer trucks though. My 04.5 was a little more forgiving on the key cycle speed.

Well to answer your question, I wanted to see how much force it was pulling and to see if a unrestricted intake would make the truck not smoke when reved up quikly thus, burning fuel more efficiently, so when she reved the truck up it in fact did not smoke that I could see, also it has been raining thus no particals and dust in the air.

I went and cycled the key about 10 times and started the truck and the engine light went off, took it for a drive and no light.

Thanks for the tip 06 Megacab and the rest of you that responded.

Negative cables, then just tap the brakes...
(03-05 trucks)
After you hook them back up, gauges flash all the way over, then start the truck, and it cleared my light.(But thats because it was just a false light, nothing was actually wrong, thats why you need to check the code first, again 03-05 trucks)
