Question Correcting bouncing over washboards..

Hi there..

We own a 2003 Dodge Quad cab Hemi 4x4. We would like to buy new 2500 Diesel. We test drove this truck and found when driving at 70 kms an hour, over washboards the truck bounced all over the gravel roads. Before we purchase..can anyone tell me if this can be corrected? We really like our Dodge 1500 and would lie to stick with Dodge. Please advise!!!!

its a heavy duty truck... not luxury
if you keep your tires inflated to correct pressures that will make a little difference. you could always go the route to air bags...

Exclamation

What we mean by bouncing, is that it would actually jump right out of the lane..or into the ditch..Almost turning around the way the old Ford twin Ibeams used to do. We drive allot ot gravel roads..would heavier shocks help????
Also..what pressure should the tires be inflated to to correct this problem????

Do a search on here about the Bilstein shocks. I am too looking into them for the sam reason, love my truck, but with my back, and bad roads, the bouncing gets tired really quick. Ive seen posts about the Bilstein 5100's, and people were amazed and so happy with the difference. Good luck

Mine bounces on washboards also, can feel the front end 'skipping'. I run 45 lbs now in all four after running 60 all around. Can tell a little difference. Also, with the heavy Cummins in the front end be careful when the roads are wet as the back end will try and come around.

But all in all, the Dodge CTD is awesome!

washboard

The wt. of the Cummins is almost 3x's the wt. of the hemi and since the diesel truck is sprung to work it will not be as good in washboard as the 1/2 ton p/u.Either slow down or stay with the 1/2 ton,if you test the Chevy or the Ford diesel in the same conditions you will probably have the same results.Try them!

Yes, due to their weight (like 7000 lbs), it is better to go faster because it wouldn't allow your shocks to go to their fullest extention so the ride would be smoother.

For me, I am looking into Bilsteins as I was just starting to get them for my old 1st gen and they did make the ride better.
