Cooking oil conversion?

Cooking oil conversion?
Will cooking oil really work in a diesel engine without ruining it? I have been reading the web sites and wonder if these people are just trying to sell some equipment to filter cooking oil.

It has to be filtered and heated before it will work, but the simple answer is yes. There are other variables as well. I saw a Duramax at SEMA that ran cross country several times on recycled veg oil. It had a system in the bed that heated the oil as it was fed into the fuel lines.
There are some tricks though. You have to start the truck initially on diesel if the oil is not heated. You also have to shut it down on diesel or the oil will be to thick to work.
The first diesel motor ran on peanut oil.

Be sure and have a supplier (restaurant) lined up before you dive in head first so to speak. My experience was that it was more difficult to get the used veggy oil (called "WVO") than it sounds, so I dropped the idea for now.
