using cooking oil

Anyone running cooking oil in thier truck- Did some reasearch on converting cooking oil to be used in a diesel truck- involves heating methanol with oil in a water heater tank, another site has an additive that you add to the cooking oil - both say you can produce "fuel" for .46 cents a gallon. Anyone running this stuff? Will it hurt my truck? what about performance stuff using this "fuel"?

it's called biodiesel... if it is made right, it is good fuel, if it is made wrong, you get a gooey mess...

you basically use waste cooking oil, methanol and lye... the lye strips the glycerine out of the waste oil and a mentanol molicule replaces the glycerine. the glycerine will settle out to the bottom. then the fuel is washed and let to dry.

if i had the space, i would brew my own bio fuel, but i don't have the space currently

If you had an earlier Dodge you could get a grease kit from a place like www.greasel.com Run straight WVO. Met a retired Marine on Pendleton at the fuel station that had the kit. Start the truck on diesel, wait for the engine to warm up and switch over to the grease. A few minutes prior to shutdown, switch back to #2 to make sure all the grease is out of the fuel lines and shut it down. He was filling up with #2 and said that the last time he'd filled up was two weeks prior north of the Grapevine. Got all his WVO from local resturants for free.

I have been running Waste Vegtetable Oil for a year now. This is NOT bio-diesel I'm running but filtered Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) nearly 22k miles.
