convince me not to get a sierra this weekend
I just switched from an Av 2005 to a new 2008 CTD Dodge. The Av is a great vehicle but it can't tow worth a crap (3.42's in mine).
I got a great trade in for my Av plus about 10000 off the sticker on my Dodge.
The Dodge is a great truck, but if your not towing - the Av is a cowboy cadillac.

My dad's 1500 went in the shop for his THIRD shaft AND a THIRD speedometer yesterday. He has also had the transmission replaced (his cost), a rear bumper replaced, a power steeting pump replaced, the four wheel drive button assembly replaced (happened to my 04 as well). Truck has been off road very little and only tows a two place snowmobile trailer (maybe 1500lbs). Every single Silverado that I know personally has had at least two steering shafts put in them.
.... until I heard a roar in the front end going around right hand turns. Took the truck back home and jacked up the front. Absolute smoked front wheel bearing.... back to the dealer this week to put the speedometer they ordered in and probably replace the wheel bearing. My dad is ******, but now he has so much in the truck he feels like he can't trade it. Too much of a loss.
Again, good luck with your decision. It will be hard because the Chevs are so nice... but you need to decide what your willing to put up with.
Man, I would kill to even be able to walk around a Dodge Dealership without getting the "POOR" guy treatment, like where your heading toward the new Trucks and the salesman steers you toward the used lot across the way.
Let alone afford anything with 3rd gen in the the description. Don't you guys realize how lucky you are to be driving the most current models of awesome Cummins power? Why are so many of you looking outside the fold? Fords, Chevy's? Don't get me wrong I love my 1st gen but it was the only CTD I can afford. As I browse the forums on here I see the 3rd gen group and sigh to myself, some Guy's have all the luck! Count your blessings.
Love to Cummins, thats why we are all here to begin with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We choose the cummins not because it hauls the most (which it does) or is the most reliable (which it is), or is the most efficient (which it is) looks the coolest (which it does) makes incredible hp/torque without much input (which it does)
We choose them because they are :
THE MOST KICK #@&* MOTOR'S ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the Trucks aren't bad either!!

I thought about that too
When looking for my first full size pickup(my current truck), the gas mileage of the new Chevy got my attention. I was not officially a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge guy yet so I can be unbiased in my opinion. IN the end I chose the megacab diesel dodge. The other two in competition were the new Chevy Silverado and the Toyota Tundra double cab. I have two kids and a wife that packs half the house when we go on vacation so I liked the dodge "man van" and the toyota but the chevy got a lot better mileage(compared to Toyota) and has a very nice ride (again, a 1/2 ton does ride better than a 3/4 ton in any of the manufacturers). What locked it for me was comparing the value in 4 years or so. The cummins option pays for itself and a whole lot more. Just look at kellybluebook.com and do some comparisons. You also may be able to run on something other than petroleum in the future and you can load up a mild programmer to squeeze out some mileage that the Chevy 1/2 ton will probably not get. Also, I took my last chance to get the 5.9 before it went away.
Drivers of the 08 Chevies don't have to look at the outside. We do and it looks worse than the Nisson. I also understand that the good mpg is greatly exagerated. Whatever you get, enjoy it.

I have always owned a truck, and my '03 CTD is by far the best of a long list. I would not own it though if I did not own an 11k (loaded) trailer. Previous to the '03 Dodge, I had a '92 Chevy X-cab 350 V8 1500 that did everything a truck is needed to do. It just couldn't tow more than about 6K. Bottom line is, if you're not going to put the truck to work, any half ton truck will fill the bill.
