convince me not to get a Ford!!!
convince me not to get a Ford!!!
I have a 99 3/4 ton that has been nothing but a heartache from the time I got it! After all the LP's VP's 5th gears electrical issues and generally watching this truck fall apart I need some convincing to bite the bullet on an 08!!
I have been reading here about more problems with the 08 electrical and I am getting worried about another mistake like my 24V. Please tell me why I would not go with a crew cab Ford??

here is one reason. My friend has an 08 ford. We went with him on a trip a few nights ago. He averaged 9.4mpg (EMPTY, not towing)!!!!!! The power is close, but the cummins Wins in this category too! The only reason i would buy the ford would be for the interior. I loved his truck until i saw the fuel mileage he was getting AND I FOUND OUT THAT YOU HAVE TO PULL ENTIRE CAB OFF OF THE TRUCK FOR ANY WORK ON THE BACK PORTION OF THE MOTOR, OR THE TURBO.
Ive seen quite a few in the shop with their cab's off the truck here lately. That will get very very expensive after the warranty expires.
The problems with the new 6.7 cummins. Yes some ppl are having problems with Check engine lights. I have not had a singe CEL since ive had my truck. I get about 16.5-17mpg mixed city/highway. thats hand calc'd. There are some ppl that are getting better mileage then me and some that are getting worse.
If i were you, I wouldnt consider a ford at all, i would consider a GMC or a Dodge. The new duramax is a very good motor so far. I just could not bring myself to buy the ugly thing.
Im a GM man at heart, but i fell in love with my truck the first time i drove it. The new 6spd auto is AWESOME and so is the Factory Exhaust break.

Simple, it is a FORD.
Sorry, could not resist.
Personally I would go backwards to a 12V, but if my 99 were paid for it would get a P-Pump conversion when the VP died and I would not look back.
The best convincing I can give you is for you to go pop the hood on an 08 Ford and tell me you even want to change the oil on that thing.

my brother has a 12 vlave 98 that is a monster!! Problem with the older trucks is there is no room!!! I would keep fixing this one for a bit longer except my kid is getting too big for the back seat. Don't even think about bringing the dogs!!
Keep em coming, I really want to be convinced!!

There are other websites for recalls but just look up the difference on this one. Get what you want, make sure you do some research before you buy. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr.../tsbsearch.cfm

like one said, i had a buddy with a 08' ford, that got 9mpg too...and also, he blew both turbos, and 3 injectors on it, with less them 6K on it, then he got it traded for a 07' 5.9 cummins.... but if i had to choose on one of the new emissions trucks, i would get a GMC......

thanks guys, all except a couple have been helpful! I am a Dodge man and in my family we own 9 and all but 1 are diesels. I guess more than anything I am getting a bit discouraged with mine.

Ford and Navistar have been feuding quite a bit over the past year. While I don't have anything to say about their product, I'd be nervous about purchasing one until they settle their differences.
I don't see Cummins suing Dodge at the moment.

I would have a hard time not changing as well. I drove and 06 Ford when I was buying last time around... and I was in the dealership with checkbook in hand. Something didn't sit right... It was the fact that I was switching away from Chevy after having nothing but problems (so I understand how you feel). I had to switch to Ford or Dodge. I didn't buy the Ford because I had heard about so many problems with 6.0L, that I just wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I bought a $50K truck (almost twice what I normally pay) that might have the same problematic tendancies. If I bought that truck, knowing all the problems that others were having, and then had my own problems of similar nature... there would be no end to the kicking of my own a**.
I wasn't sure about the Dodge. To be honest, I liked the Ford better. But the Mega cab is actually much nicer, and this truck has turned out to be a great decision. I have had a few problems, but the were addressed quickly and easily with little of my time wasted. I hope this truck continues to serve me this well, but it's ay ahead of my Chevys so far.
Either way, good luck with the new truck. If you are the kind of person that will only be happy with the truck you WANT.... get the Ford... no doubt about it. I am typically that way, but in this case I wanted to try and make sure I was driving more than fixing.
