convince me not to get a Ford!!!
I have had mine for just over a year now - 14 months, I love this truck.
She currently has 64,000 miles on the odo' 0 - zero issues!
She died on me the other day, bad fuel - could happen to any one.
At the moment mixed drivin and a few trailers with small John Deere on my mileage is approx' 17 - 18 mpg.
Re-programmed Xillarader II to the mpg tune and will see how that effects the mpg's.
This is my experience with my CTD, I love this truck - see my mod's in the sig' below.
(My brother in-law has an '06 King Ranch, He came by today, always saying good about my Dodge, but today finally admitted he should have bought another Dodge -he dislikes his Ford and the issues he is dealing with on such a pricey truck.)
Good luck with your decision.

A guy I work with has a brand new 6.4l. Very nice truck. Exterior and interior. I especially like the interior. Then he told me he was only getting 500km (311miles) to a tank of fuel.
That alone is enough for me not to buy one.
My wife really wanted me to buy a harley edition powerstroke when I bought my 07. I told her not a chance when I rely on my truck to take me to work all the time and i'm the one that has to pay for the fuel.

I was a devoted Ford owner until all the issues came up on the 6.0l. I would be worried over the 6.4 since the 6.0 was only in their trucks from mid 03 thru the end of the 06 model year, thats not long of a production run when it was suppose to be ready for the newer emission when they came out. I am happy with my choice to switch to a Cummins and will stay unless Ford comes out with a inline 6 that is not a International, you cannot beat a inline for torque. BTW I drive a 07 duramax for work it's not bad but the Cummins is better for that low end grunt, the V8 is good for higher top speeds.
They just recalled a bunch of 7.3 powerjokes, I had to laugh at my father in law!
sucker would stall and loose fuel mid accel! guess its a crank pos. sensor. add another reason to stay away!
Ferd shop said to carry an extra one with you, Guess its a good thing fords have deep beds, need the room to carry all the spare parts!

I guess some guys got into accidents due to the problem.
My granddad's 90's 7.3 350 4x4 crew has had terrible luck. He goes through glow plugs on a regular basis, last count was 3-4 sets all around. (with all dealer maintenance) The steering box and tie rods fell off, the heater fan has burned up twice, the trans won shift at high rpm and the injector o-rings failed and he burned almost all the oil before the light came on and he realized something was wrong. And the waste gate or something stays open when cold and won't allow power to made. And the electric pedal goes from idle to like 1200 rpm with no in between. As for the gassers, he has lost all the studs off a wheel before at speed, the I-beam 4x4 leaves the wheels looking like an old dog, All of the frames have sagged in the middle. And the 4x4 auto hubs were a joke.
My uncle's dad bought a super-duty 250 in 02-03 has had poor performance, mpg, came to find that the rear brake was to tight or something. He has also had plug problems.
Father-n-laws shifter pulls out when you shift, stalling problem, the power steering cooler is below the bumper behind the plastic air dam which is prone to finding protruding objects or hard bumps. (fluid every where)
I think if Navistar/Intl. had offered an in-line 6 to Ford it might be a meaningful argument. Same with GM, in-lines beat v style any day for torque and efficiency. One of the things I have never really liked about the powerjoke was th rpm it takes to do anything. Sucker screams just to get moving. When a CTD is putting on car lengths at much lower RPM.
Any way thats my two cent's again. Don't buy a FORD!
D-C out!
PS. Sure is a lot of Dodge hatin ford lovin for an all Dodge site goin on round here!

I am in the same boat, have been trying to decide what to buy this spring. I not really excited about the new emissions stuff, but what are you gonna do about it?? I have always been a ford guy, until i got burned on an 03 6.0L, later sold to buy 06 dodge. The dodge has been pretty good (had starting issues when new, replaced master cylinder twice, and a few other little things) but since then i have put on about 20k trouble free miles. I will be keeping this truck for a work truck(for employees), and buying a new one in the spring.
What i can tell you after owning one dodge and many of fords over the past few years, they are not built the same. Their is a reason that dodges are cheaper IMHO. The interior is horrible (looks like a 90's model), seats uncomfortable, and some of the parts they use are junk. The tires, shocks, and speakers are a of the worst quality i have ever seen in a 40k+ truck. My has truck squeeked and rattled from day 2 with many attempts from dealership to fix them (not).
I like my 06 (hence the reason for keeping) but i read a gm, dodge, and ford website daily at it appears tha the new 6.7 CTD is having the most problems of all. That really hurts for guys like me who bought the truck for the Cummins!! I reall like my local dodge dealership, but IMHO it's between GMC and Ford for me. To bad the gmc's and chevy's are so darn ugly! If the ford's were getting a little better mileage i would not hesitate one bit as the ford site i frequent has been very quiet! To each their own, and i am not bashing any of them, as they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but dodge is last on my list right now anyways.

I was looking for a truck to keep for at least 10yrs. or more to pull my boat and fifthwheel with. Which means I might have to do some work on it in the driveway someday, and with the Ford and GMs, I can't even get to the V8 to work on it, and I'm not pulling the body off it to change out the sticks. I was ready to drive my wifes frontwheel drive car into the lake last week, when I had to put a water pump on it. If you ask me, the 5.9 Cummins are the last of the do it yourselfer engines, and I've got one.

Yes the CPS is an issue with the Fords, but the replacement part costs $27.00 and a 10mm wrench and 5 minutes and your fixed. So, before I trash talk all the 7.3s, lets be honest. Think of the VP44 pump failures and compare those with the $27.00 fix, seems to pale in comparison.
Overall since the release of the 6.0 I have not gone with Ford. Only time will tell on the 6.4s, but the poor mileage may be because they are toting 1,000 lbs of extra weight they are carrying...

Easier to get to parts than a V8, you better beleive it!!! But as far as complication, eh....

That's because the Ford guys are too proud to admit their truck is a hunk of junk. I've seen alot of buddies with Fords bite the dust, and I've seen some cummins bite the dust (from poor operators). The Fords always fall harder. I'm not to interested in the GM part, I've never liked their electricals or taste in style.

!To the original poster, if you can find a really nice low mileage 06 or 07 w/5.9 i would say do it, it will be much more reliable than any of the new emission regulated trucks!!
