I have also heard Ford is taking a bath on the new dual turbo setup. Ford should contract with Banks than they might have something! Or just put a small inline CAT in em.

The 5.9 was not outfitted with EGR or DPF.That started on 6.7. No one as of a few nights ago on THEDIESELSTOP had any mention of turbo issues.Few minor oil drips and lots of radiators. Not a whole lot of fokes with 6.4 posting on the site. That always makes a differance in issues being reported.

thanks guys!! I know asking here to convince is kinda silly but I was just getting frustrated. I am looking at a few 06's with warranty left and also some 07 5.9's

I will stick with the best engine!!

I have been following the 6.4 on dieselstop since it came out and have not heard of any turbo issues. Seems to be a common problem on here with the 6.7L though. Like earlier posted only a few oil drips, and some early radiator issues. Otherwise they are praised othe than the crappy mileage. I think the dodge will be a good one, they just need some more time to work the bugs out of it. Maybe in 09 if they don't mess it up with the body change.

I guess some guys got into accidents due to the problem.

My granddad's 90's 7.3 350 4x4 crew has had terrible luck. He goes through glow plugs on a regular basis, last count was 3-4 sets all around. (with all dealer maintenance) The steering box and tie rods fell off, the heater fan has burned up twice, the trans won shift at high rpm and the injector o-rings failed and he burned almost all the oil before the light came on and he realized something was wrong. And the waste gate or something stays open when cold and won't allow power to made. And the electric pedal goes from idle to like 1200 rpm with no in between. As for the gassers, he has lost all the studs off a wheel before at speed, the I-beam 4x4 leaves the wheels looking like an old dog, All of the frames have sagged in the middle. And the 4x4 auto hubs were a joke....yadda yadda yadda
Sheesh...almost as bad as all the VP44, lift pump, ball joint, recirc door, 5th gear nut, auto tranny, APPS, KDP yadda yadda yadda failures on the Dodges over the years.

At least Ford is stepping up to the plate and fixing their junk.

Get what you want. They all have their good points & bad points.

Personally, I would stay away from a 6.0 & 6.4. So, if you want a Ford, you have to get a 2003 or earlier trucks (and some of the 2003s had the 6.0 in them). I have a 2001 Excursion w/ a 7.3. It has 140K miles on it. Over the last year it cost me $5K. Tranny rebuild, replace all ball joints, etc. But overall I still REALLY like it. Milage is OK, but not great - 17 hwy & 14 city. (my Dodge gets 21 Hwy 18 city for comparison).

I would also stay away from any '07 truck so that means no 6.7 for me either. I know some here like them, but lower milage, more electronics, DPF, etc. scares me.

Me, I think I'm going to start looking for a used 2007 5.9 six speed 4x4 MegaCab dually. How hard do you guys think that is going to be to find?

I was ready to drive my wifes frontwheel drive car into the lake last week, when I had to put a water pump on it. If you ask me, the 5.9 Cummins are the last of the do it yourselfer engines, and I've got one.
Same here. I felt like I won the lottery when I found mine with only 9000 miles at the beginning of this month! I plan on holding on to this one for as long as possible, because I know the engine is good for it. When you own a Ram CTD, its more a problem making sure the shell around the engine lasts as long as the engine will. And it seems Dodge really did well with the 03+ (and 06+ with the updated headlights).

There are still some brand new 07's on the lots with the 5.9 . My dealer found me a MC with a 5.9 last week. If you are looking for new get with a dealer that will work for you.

I think enough people got burned on the 6.0, that the 6.4's are not selling well. I.E. not many complaints. The guys I know driving 6.4's are not happy with the mpg's. The truck and interior is nice but the powerstroke is not worth the $$$, compared to gas for a lot of people that are committed to Ford, but prefer to have their new truck on the road, vs. at the fuel stop/at the shop. I have said this many times in the past, "If you NEED a diesel then you NEED a Cummins, if you WANT a diesel so you can say "I have a diesel" then anything will work". I am not knocking the others (i am knocking them a little), I just dont think there is a comparison for full time tow rigs. Convinced?
