I know two people who each have an F-250 Crew Cab, one with the 7.3L and one with the 6.0L.

The guy who owns the 7.3L have invested $12,000 over 5 year to keep the truck running. He says he will never buy a Ford diesel again.

The guy who owns the 6.0L likes it, but the gas mileage is always at 10-12 MPG.

My Brother In Law would give me too much crap about buying a FORD (hes a FORD lover and always will be).

"Oh, finally realized Ford is better huh?"

Yeah, I don't need that stress!

Plus, every FORD my family has owned seems to fall apart. Not really saying FORD is bad, just my family never has had luck with them so I just say heck with it and don't risk it!

Have a good one and enjoy whatever you get!

PS. go drive 'em both and see which one gives you the bigger smile. You know base your purchase on the "smile factor".

I just went through the same dilema...I like the fords Interior better and the new look but I went with the dodge for several reasons....The biggest was the gas mileage...When I was test driving a ford on the highway the mileage was horrible 8mpg and was'nt moving much and it was a long test drive too. I did flip flop on the diesel sites and the ford diesel stop guys where in a up roar about mileage. The servicing on the motor like other guys said. I have a short bed Quad 4x4 with 410's and getting 15.5 mpg mixed. The 6.7 seems like it has better pull then the ford. Exhaust brake is also nice. Dodge to me drives better. I have about 1500 miles no codes or problems. Goodluck with your decision its a tough one.

To start off i am not bashing Ford, I had a 03 CC 4x4 auto 6.0L PSD spent 55 days in the shop out of 36 months. I got a BAD one, nothing more nothing less. I decided to give the Dodge Cummins a try. 13 months, no time in the shop.

EDIT; 15000 miles and really like this engine.

Thats how a contest between a power joke and the the mighty dodge cummins ends up every time . I think it was last year but I read an article said the powerjoke had like 85 technical service bulletins on it the D-max had 12 and the CTD had 0!!

DON'T BUY A FORD!! Are you convinced?

if you need more room, get a 03-07 5.9 QC dodge....i would stay away from the 6.0 ford and the 6.4 ford...if you could find a low mile 99-03 7.3 cc ford i wouldnt hesitate with that either

At the time that I got rid of the PSD, I believe that it was 88 TSB's.
Again, I am not bashing Ford or trying to start any wars. Just letting people know my experience. Good luck.

I bought a F150 and absolutely love it. This is my first Ford, and yes I will buy another. They know how to put together a truck. Only reason I like the Dodge is for the Cummins.

Preferrably a 99-01 before they tried to "lighten up" the engine with powdered rods.

Thumbs up

Had Fords since '78, all bought new.
No major problems on th 89,92, & the 01.
The 92 & 01 were diesels, good reliable motors,18mpgs, loaded with racks & tool boxes. Was looking for a new truck in early 07, had my 01 in for service & the service manager who knew me told me to keep my truck & to stay away from the 6.0 diesel & to forget obout the new 6.4 that was about to come out. Researched the cummins & found a 07 that met my needs, zero problems to date, I'm happy with this truck. Get the DODGE with the cummins.

I try to get a new vehicle every 2-3 yrs but now with the emissions stuff on the new diesels I am serious thinking about keeping my 06 for a while. But If I were going to buy a new emission diesel I would have to look at all three because there are all new (the GM is the same I gues but all the electronics are different)

First thing open the hood and look at the engine or what you can see of it, the dodge still remains the easiest to work on as far as hands on do-it-yourselfer goes.

The ford looks the best to me but they have a tough track record to build on after the 6.0 diaster, that is why I would steer clear of the Ford for now.

The GM is probably going to be the best bet for performance and reliability adn the GMC looks better than the chev but is behind the dodge and ford for looks.

The Dodge is the best value around here and will be good for 08 I believe after the 07.5 problems. Around here the dodge is about 3-5K cheaper than the ford or the gm and that is a lot of dough.

All in all buy what you like because they are all getting better and better with time.

thats only a problem if your planning to go over 400 rwhp...which takes quite a bit of work

i personally prefer the 97 f-350 cc 4x4 7.3 5 spd

The 6.4 Fords on THEDIESELSTOP.COM is overall pretty quiet. Not many issues.Radiators leaking and that been caught etc. Fuel mileage issues mainly Duallys,450s and 550s which is kinda like so what on those bigger trucks.Of course they haven't been out long but by abd by a WHOLE lot better launch then the 6.0s had.I wonder why? I read that forum daily. The G.M, site's are ok for the 07/08 model year. You CAN get rid of the DPF by running EFI live and not throw codes,I think thats pretty trick.Older D/maxes some overheat, injectors a Big issue, water in fuel lights not working and BIG repair bills(sound familier) I Think you need to spend a week or TWO reading various sites(theres a ton of them) and make your OWN decison. The INFO is out there and sometimes a LOT differant then WELL SO and SO says.

My 1995 F-350 Dually PS was one of the best trucks I have had. Over 200k on it with no problems and a Hypertech chip.
