Cluster ? Also interior lights etc dont' work
Literally?
My cluster will not light up. the guages do not move. The interior lights, brake lights, turn signals, window wipers, headlight switch, etc are all dead.
The security light is on in the cluster. it's the only sign of life.
This is after doing some preventative maintenence on the battery terminals (No good dead goes unpunished).
Looks like the cluster is the common point for all of it. I can't believe they built this much stuff into it. Even the hazzard lights won't work.
Anyway, I pulled the cluster and checked the power and ground supplies. They are all there:
C3(14) Pos all times
C1(1,14) Pos all times
C3(13) Pos in run, acc
C3(12,23) Good common
C1(11,13) Good common
So, a question or two:
1) Does anyone think this is anything else except a cluster? Perhaps a FCM not sending data on the canbus??
2) Can I get an auto cluster from a similar year truck and plug it in? I could care less about the indicated mileage, just want functionality back!
3) Does anyone have an internal schematic for the cluster?
Thanks,
Chay Foss

Fixed!
The new (old) cluster did the trick.
I'm going to try to figure out the old one and fix it for a spare. I still think it's a power supply issue. The logic typicalty runs at 5V, so it needs a dc-dc power supply.

Your typical computer power supply has ac input, so that would be a bit of a hard solution.
I'm an electronics tech, and have built many dc-dc power supplies. The typical IC that is used is a LM7805, which is a linear regulating IC, 8-35V input, 5V output. Expected to see one in the box, but they have used something different. I'll have to figure it out.
