Cobra 29

I mounted mine under the steering wheel, more toward the radio. There is a fellow on here who was making brackets to mount them on the floor, kinda between the shifter and the seat.

Do a search on Big Bob CB mounts. This is mine, it will work with manual shifter I am pretty sure.

How do you route the antenna wiring and which antennas are the best?

Joe

PS. RamWheelsBy4, who makes that gauge mount? How did you route the wiring?

Ok I will answer that, and expect to be admonished by the "Real" CBers. I have had a CB in every truck I have ever owned since 1972. I used a Midland Window mount. Ran the antenna cable under back pillar and under door seals, then under carpet through opening for power seat wiring and to the CB. This antenna and the previous window mount worked fine for my needs on the road.

This gallery at DTW has pics of my CB install.

From what I've read, you can't get duals far enough apart on a pickup to perform properly.

I'm looking at the Cobra 29, but haven't decided on an antenna.

Has anybody cut the cubby hole bigger and mounted there?

There is no room behind the cubby hole. It is 5 or so inches deep so anything else on the radio would be sitting out from the dash.

OK, I got pictures and here is what I did.

I used a Wilson 1000 roof mount so the cable is under the headliner and brought down the back pillar between the right rear door and rear window. It then follows the door channel and comes into the compartment under the center front seat.

The radio is then mounted to the bottom side of the seat for the center section. I wanted something out of site as I drive to Atlanta and park where vehicles are known to get broke into. I plan on adding an external speaker I just haven't decided where. You can still hear the radio with the section closed.

There is a mic extension cable that plugs into a connector mounted in the front of the center section plastic box (under the center seat)

This enables the mic to be outside the center bottom storage area and everything closed up. The mic is out of the way when not needed.

Also while I was doing it I set an auxilary fuse block with 4 switched and 3 hot 20 amp circuits for running misc other items. It is fed straight from the battery and is keyed.

Just how I did it. Hope it all makes since.

CB Mount

As primitive as it may sound, I just mounted my radios to the sides of the transmission hump. Drilled a couple of holes trhough the carpet & screwed the mounting brackets to the hump. It works. Nowhere near a clever as the seat storage compartment mount. That one is really neat!!!

Be sure, before you drill, that there is nothing on the inside (transmission side) of the hump.

I, also, agree that there is nothing I have found that works as well as the Wilson 1000 antenna. I have the roof mount. Requires drilling the roof but, it's there forever. I've had magnetic mounts & they occassionaly get knocked off the roof by low hanging branches, etc. If you choose the roof mount & have the side air bags, be careful where you put the cable.

Big Bob's CB Mount

I believe I heard that Big Bob's mount will not work with a six speed stick shift. I believe the radio sits right where the drink holders are. The shifter doesn't look like it would interfere with the radio unless the radio was really long.

I'm sorry you are incorrect. They work fine.
