Why when going from a quad cab long bed to a mega cab with a short bed do you loose 1700# of GVWR. But yet the GCWR are the same for the two????

Better yet a dually mega can only haul 40# more then a single wheel, come on.....

 

How much is the weight difference between the vehicles...I'm sure not 1700lbs, but that is a factor in the factory weight ratings.

GVWR is the max that vehicle can go down the road weighing. Include weight of fuel, passengers, and whatever your carrying. Mega weighs more because of its Mega cab, so can carry less weight. They roll on the same chassis.

 

Yep,its pretty much a matter of the MC weighing so much it eats into the GVWR of the truck itself.

 

GVWR has nothing to do with the weight of the vehicle, payload does yes.

GVWR is like you said the max weight the vehicle with everything in it can weigh. And like mensiond they are on the same chassi so why is the GVWR different. The weight of the vehicle does not effect the GVWR. The weight of the vehilce effect payload, which is GVRW - the curb weight.

 

I know that the QC has more bed space to carry a load where as the Mega has less bed space and thus it can't carry as much pay load. But I would think they would have the same gross weight capacity if they both had the same rear gears and transmission. But then it could be that the bridge law may come in play in here and why they have different GVWR but have the same CGVWR.
