I forgot my tailgate was down the other day and back into a light pole.Now i have got a nice ding in my tailgate. It bent the hinge where the tailgate fits into. If i could get the darn thing off i could straighten it out. I could easily remove the gate on my 96' Dodge. On the 2006 its different, whats the trick to getting it off.

 

It should be the same as mine. With the gate down, push it all the way to left and then lift out the right side. Should come right out and then disconnect the straps.

 

I have pushed, pulled, yanked and this sucker will not come off. Any more suggestions.

 

I believe it has to be removed on the right at a 45 degree angle. It almost slips over the right right, like a slot.

The left side is just a simple push in/pull out deal.

Try spraying some penetrant lube on both hinges.

 

I got it, the oil did help and it does slip off at a 45 angle on passenger side, thanks guys.

 

You could drop fithwheel on it like I did. Worked great!!! destroyed my poor tailgate.
