Can I power my water pump off the trailer plug????

Hello,

I wanna hook up a new 8-10 amp electric water pump to a 7 plug trailer connector and stick it in my truck's trailer plug receptacle. Do you guys know if this will work? The pump will run for around 30 minutes at a time. It is a pump similar to those put in RVs.

Any info would be apperciated! Thanks!

I think it should work also, nothing is fused to less than 10amps. I have not looked at the diagrams, but I would think the 7 pin trailer wiring would be 15amp, of course my normal disclaimer, its Monday and I have not made a mistake yet.

Yes it works. I use an RV water pump to transfer fresh water from a tank in the bed of the truck into the RV. I wired the trailer end of a 7 pin to the pump and it runs with no problem at all. The charge line is fused at 40 amps. Plenty for the pump. Just pay attention to the polarity when you wire it up.

Casey,
What are you using to store your water in that is in the back of the truck?
I have been looking for some kind of tank myself but to date haven't found one.

Camping World has these 40 gallon vinyl water bags. Not cheap but they have lasted me ten years and they are still going strong. I made up a manifold for the pump and hook two of these together and lay them in the bed of the truck. Gives me 80 gallons of capacity and it sure beats carrying that in jugs five gallons at a time. Works great. When I am finished I just fold up the bags and they take up little storage room. I sanitize them the same way as I do with the RV tank. http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...13&skunum=1605
